What paint did you use to paint your stand? Did you prime the stand 1st? Or any other prep work?

What led you to decide on paint over powdercoating or Rhino-coating?

Any issues with the paint chipping off?

Thanks

I've been trying to get this light since November. It was sold to me as a "special request" because they would not sell it in the U.S. It wasnt even available until last month but only in Italy & Germany. After 5 months of going back and forth, the owner approved it.

Mike, I didnt get the Bilux. :) I just said they had another fixture version. :)

tbone, Abe built the stand. He owns his own fish tank and knew what was needed to build it so I let him design it himself. Im not sure what he used or how they set it up. The reason why I didnt worry about the special coatings you are talking about is because I have seen steel out in the open and it can handle a lot of different environments.

wilson, thank you very much.

ninong, sorry, that's not wide enough. ;)

Well the game is over. Mike finally got it. Just so you know it wasnt Specta.. but then you got it right as Spectra. ;) LOL. I know. I was messing with you. Only one person knew what I was getting and that was naka. Thats why I was wondering why you were asking me about the Spectra recently.

Anyhow, here are the specs for the light fixture I am getting soon:

Giesemann Spectra
Metallic Diamond Black
72 in
3 x 250 Watt HQI - 13K Marine Bulbs SE
4 x 80 Watt T5

Original plan was to get the Stonegray color, but decided not to so it would match the stand.

Since my tank is very wide, this pendant would aesthetically look better because it is 18" wide vs the standard 13.75". The Spectra is only available using Mogul based bulbs which makes the reflector's that much wider.

I also got something else from Giesemann coming.

The lighting setup will be as follows (it should say 13K instead of 10K - old diagram):

I knew it ...:) No James didnt tell. He just said u getting Giesseman lights ,thats all.. So i figurs it should be Spectra :)
Dude, Its awsome . This system must be top notch.
As u already know i am looking into it myself, but 400w version..
I need some feedback !!!!
I am talking to Phil for past 2 weeks already:))

Overall, the final project should look something like this (not including the spot lights). I will be rotating light activation throughout the day while some spots come on first, the core, then others.. etc. I have the photoperiod time in a spreadsheet on how i want this to work. My initial goal is to have the core lights for as short as time as possible.. possibly 4 hrs. The colors of the corals will be my guide throughout the year. The core lights will give the corals its true colors (light or dark) vs the supplemental MH's and T5's are for the corals reflective properties which is an instant look vs the core which takes months to acheive. Another factor to this is the specimens I will be keeping as most softies dont need as much light.

What controller do you plan to use? I notice it's drawn into the cabinet door. Looks like a great place for the Elos controller. Oh yeah, and what software program did you use to create that full system diagram, as well as the other diagrams in this thread? I just started using Google SketchUp to design my upcoming system, but I like your images a lot.

Looks like either Illustrator or maybe Photoshop for the plan drawings.
