It begins... 345-gallon Starphire in-wall system

For what its worth, and as far as i understand ... as long as the fishes are eating .. ick isn't a major concern. but don't hold me to that ...

my PBT has had ick for the past 3 months ... hes healthy as can be ... i always mix garlic extreme in with their food.

Yeah I do garlic too. I agree with the eating thing, he's still eating like a pig but his breathing seems labored. I'm afraid his gill tissue is infested.

The question is...how much have YOU had?

today? none...still loaded from yesterday. :D

If its breathing is labored, you might have to pull him out and treat him in a QT.

nope. when I tried to trap mine, he was the ONLY fish that didn't go into the trap. The cleaner shrimp can get to some of the cysts in the gills so I guess watching it closely to see which way it's going is about it. Do you have a trap?

lots of them available now. I built my own but they can be found for around $20 - $30. Some clubs keep one also.

that's an interesting trap but is there some way to seal off the feeding tube? When you lift it out of the tank, won't the water pour out the tube?

Don't think the water will pour out the tube as it's above the box. It'll run out the box as it's not water tight.

Thanks for the link Tom. That's a neat looking contraption, I've just never made anything out of acrylic although it doesn't look that hard.

Do they sell a glue for the kind of acrylic you can buy at Lowe's and HD? If so, what's it called?

weldon is the glue you need/want, we use Weldon 4 and 16 for our projects. The #s are just a matter of how thick the glue is and how fast it dries/sets up. The lower the # the faster/thinner IIRC.. although I have not seen it at Lowes/HD. We get ours from Tap Plastics locally, along with plenty of acrylic from the scrap bin for our little projects (our sumps and prop tanks were another story :)).

Thanks,

I'll look in te phone book and see if there's a plastics place that sells it.

It like to get him in QT, as I've had good luck treating ick with hyposalinity at 1.010. The only problem is I need to keep him in there for 45 days to make sure the cycle is broken and the QT is only 20 gallons.

change a gallon of water every day.

lots of places online to buy Weld-On glue too. I use #4, #16, and #40.

My trap is a holding container too, with a spin door. When I lift it out of the tank, it will hold the fish fine without leaking.

Why a gallon of water a day? I spill that much! :D Oh, are you talking about on the QT?

I was hoping to get it local to get this thing built today.

How do you spin it closed when it's 30" deep? Got a picture?
