It begins... 345-gallon Starphire in-wall system

If you can't get all the fish out you will run the risk of this happening in the future. But some people don't use QT and actually through very sick fish in their stable system saying the stable fish "cures" them. This can work but the pathogens are always there and it only takes one small thing to stress fish out and boom, fishocide. :)

The PBT looked like it had Brooklynella. It's a fast killer but usually only attacks Clownfish but in the past I've had it kill other animals too. Formalin is the only treatment for that. If you are trying to save fish then copper is the best choice as it works the fastest. Hypo takes 3 weeks to actually kill the Ich. I've never used copper as I QT all new fish for 6 week. I've had terrible QT results and excellent QT results but after about 4 cycles I think I have the system down down now and I enthusiastically recommend hypo QT with Formalin and Paraguard. Can be brutal but it ensures you don't kill off all your prized fish.

Thanks,

I still need to put some time aside to get the rest of the fish out. All my visitors will be gone next week, the first time we've had everyone out for the past 5 months. I'll make time then. Haven't added any finned critters for awhile and everything that's in the display and qt is doing well. Jut need to let the main tank go fallow, do the hypo thing with the qt and kill everything for good.

I see you're getting back on track. Hope things come together quickly for you and you can stop the stn.

What is your qt protocol now?

I use a 50g tank which has Remora Pro hang-on skimmer and a UV Steriliser. It has 2 Powerheads, some LR (few chunks) and some pieces of pipe. I keep two sponges in there two to help maintain the denitrification while it's empty. The main issue with QT is maintaining water quality so I change water twice a week (except when I'm medicating). I add fish, lower salinity into hypo quite quickly, wait a week and treat with Formalin for one week. After the week is up I wait another week and then I treat with Paraguard for one week. After 5-6 weeks I raise salinity very slowly over a week by replacing QT water with main system water. I think the last time i did it I didn't lose a single fish. Looking forward to adding some more fish after the hot weather is done with.

seeing all these big inwall tanks are making my 150 inwall look like nothing

You have to start somewhere. I started off with a 125. :D

Thanks Lawrence,

i QT'd everything that went into my 125 after a similar incident, just got impatient on this one. Lesson learned...AGAIN!

well, not much of an update but at least a piece of eye candy. As you know I bought an elegance coral a few months back that didn't fair very well. A local reefer who has had one for 6 months in her system added too much flow that it wasn't happy with so she decided to sell it off and I got it. here' the new addition.

not the best pic but you get the idea. Opened up straight away after acclimation and hopefully will do well.

I finally got my Ca reactor back online and most of my visitors are gone, last one should be gone this week. Projects are just about wound up and should have time to get the rest of the critters out to QT for the ich and get the rest of the tank straightened out.

Yeah Jonathan it hurt alot. Most of the casualties happened when I was WA. Then I thought it had settled down and added some more livestock and it reared it's ugly head again. This time no impatients or mistakes everythings heading for a hypo qt and nothing else goes in without the same treatment.

erics3000: Me too. Had entirely too many distractions with all the visitors and lots of work.
