It`s All Their Fault!

Just a short update. I have been out of town for a few days so not much has happened in the way of getting anything done to the tank. My plan is to finish building the bow part of the canopy this week.

The XM 250watt 15k`s came in. I snapped a pic of the tank with them on and thought I would share. The left bulb hasn`t quite reached full on yet so it looks a little darker in this shot, but is the same intensity when warmed up. Also notice a bit of corraline growing on the front glass, so that is a good sign. :D I think I need to add 1 more rock to the top to get the look I am wanting, now to find that perfect rock.;)

The powder blue that my LFS has been holding for me has just a few spots of ich on its front fins so waiting for that to clear up before I bring it home. It has been a bit over 2 weeks in QT now and that just showed up the last day or so.:(
And he has a 1/4hp chiller I am thinking of getting. The tank temp reached a peak of 82 degrees yesterday, so I need to get that down before adding any sps.

If you peak at 82 I see no need for a chiller. I don't even begin to worry until the tank is constantly around 85 and even there I would explore other methods of heat reduction before adding a chiller.

Are they treating that Tang? Don't bring it home until it has been ich free for at least 4 weeks.

My tank peaks around 83 also, go to Walmart and buy a clip on fan, aim it at the topof your sump, hitting the water, that should give you a degree or 2. I have mine on a timer that starts an hour before the halides and ends an hour after just to help compensate.

Timer...That is a great idea. I turn the fan off at night and on every morning. Maybe I should put it on the same timer as the actinics...

That was yesterday. Today at 4:50pm here the temp is 83. I keep the home A/C set @ 76. Is this ok for sps? If it doesn`t go any higher I won`t worry about it then. I have a 4" computor fan running over the middle of the tank that is on the same timer as the 1st MH that comes on. And will be getting some others a friend has for $5 a piece to put in the canopy once it is finished. As you know the top is open and I haven`t built the bow for the canopy yet, that is my project for tomorrow or wednesday, I just hung a towel in front for now to keep from being blinded.

Yes, it is recieving hyposalinity, it is eating Nori well, and we have begun to add kent`s garlic extreme to that as well as the TheraA pellets. Copy the 4 weeks, will do.

Should I move the fan from over the tank and place it over the sump? I know when I open the door it is really humid in the stand.
p.s. anyone care to rate my thread?

You can point a fan at the water (either the display or the sump) and it will make a big difference.

I ran my tank around 81 to 83 daily for several months, and the SPS were fine. As others pointed out, at 85 you need to worry. Adding more $8 fans is way cheaper than an electric chiller - both initially and consistently due to electricity. The chiller will not be 100% silent, and it will pump out heat in the room it is in.

Yes.

It is too early to rate this thread. He doesn't even have his Powder Blue Tang yet.

WE NEED MORE PICTURES! :D

Working on the canopy tonight!
Have the bow`s cut and just working on the rest of the pieces. Thought I would check R/C during a  break.
Pic`s to come soon.

I agree with Marc. After all you have to at least finish everything except the canopy and have lots of pictures. Right Marc

What do you mean I don`t have the PBT yet? It`s at the LFS LOL :D I am afraid that it will be at least 4 more weeks in QT for the powderblue. It doesn`t have alot of ick, only place I have seen any is on the front fins. And then it is not alot. The fish is still eating nori like crazy, about 1/2 sheet a day. We have been soaking that and the TheraA pellets with kent`s garlic extreme, along with the hyposalinity.
And it just absolutely tears up mysis :)

Ok I promised some pic`s so here ya go.
I started with this.
