It`s All Their Fault!

Found some time to work on the canopy. Pretty much have it done except for the trim work.
A shot of it with everything closed.

With the door open, this will be nice at feeding time. :)

And with the front raised for maintenance.

I`ll post one when the trim is done and it is ready for stain.
Guess it`s time to move those pictures behind it :D

Oh, I love that canopy!!!!!!! Nicely done, especially with the full access option.

Just had to chime in and say great job on that canopy! I like bowfront tanks, but I'd not handy enough myself to come up with a canopy like you just created. I really like how you can just open the door for feedings, or lift up the entire front panel for more intensive maintenance. Awesome!

He wouldn't have been able to do that without my thread on How to use a Router, you all thumbs Newbie". :D

Great looking canopy, if you don't mind I'll "borrow" you idea for my still under planning stage dream tank.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
My pagoda robot actually turned out to fit together nicely to transform into a canopy! :D It`s amazing what those transformers can do nowadays :) There is an idea for your newest thread Waterkeeper ;)

That`s why I started this thread. To give back to R/C what it has given me. Feel free to "borrow" all the ideas you want.

I am going to Dallas for the weekend, my wife`s cousin is getting married. Some of you Texas football fans may remember him, He played center, until graduating this year.
Hoping that I can meet up with Melev to see his tank, and "borrow" some of his great ideas. :bum:

Since I was gone most of last week I haven`t had time to do anything as far as working on the canopy. After the wedding which was held in the beautiful SMU chapel, the next day I got to meet Marc, (Melev) and see his tank :) it really is quite impressive the system he has.
His sump runs about the same as what my display tank holds!! :D
I plan to "borrow" a few of his ideas, and got some good advice as far as aquacontrollers go.

Even though he has lost some sps corals, there is still a ton of life going on.
Since I noticed the Melev had updated his thread with a few pictures I thought that I would update my thread and post a few pictures that I took of his tank while I was there. Hope ya`ll enjoy them.

The first one is of his pico tank. These are some of the smallest clams I have seen. I loved them!

A couple shots that turned out nice.

Thanks Marc for taking the time to meet me and let me gaze upon your reef.

I'm glad you came down to visit. Did you stop by either of those LFS I suggested, or was it just possible this trip?

Just like Marc. Have an open bar and he crashes the party. :D

I think I've heard he also steals the plexiglass plates they place under wedding cakes layers to make more sumps. ;)

I didn`t get to this trip, just ran out of time. *Had to get back for a BBQ* I do appreciate you suggesting them and will try to get to them next time I am in the area.

Added the powderblue tang to the display last night. I didn`t get to acclimate it as long as I would have liked to as the bag tipped over in the tank. ;)
It appears not to have affected it though as it is still swimming happily this morning :) and I have not noticed any aggression from any of the tank mates either. :D

On a side note, one of the chromis that I have in the tank was looking a bit picked on, a bit on the skinny side, that I have noticed was not getting to eat as much as it should. So before I added the powderblue I removed it and it is now in my qt. Hoping that I can fatten it up some and then put it back in the display.

Here is hoping for the best.

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading this thread. I'm no where near ready to dream about having (let alone building) a tank like your's, but I am impressed. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Me too! Hopefully it will be soon, almost have the trim work done on the canopy, of course that is the most time consuming part of the construction phase, then it will be ready for staining. Which is really the most time consuming :D

:beachbum:

I agree, staining is where you get to see, all the hard work you put into it pay off. Staining can really make or break a project.
I plan to mix my stain with tung oil and rub in, for a nice hand rubbed finish.
