Well, I picked this tank up almost 2 years ago just out side of NYC. Its been in my aunts basement waiting for me to finish the addition to the house. The house still isn't finished but its on its way and the tank is now in place for the wall to be built around it. Here are a few pic's to get this started. Us unloading it from the truck.

Stand isn't much to look at and the tank is covered in sand and salt crust but the stand will be built into the wall so I don't care what it looks like.

Now I need to figure some things out. This tank doesn't have overflows like my other tank so I'm not 100% sure how I should go about it. I do know that I'm going to need 4 new 1.5" bulk heads. Anyway here is a pic of one of the overflows and what I would assume is 1 of the returns. The 4 1.5" holes that are drilled in the bottom of the tank are spaced out. 1 in each corner and the other 2 are in the back of the tank about 1/3 of the way to the left and right of the center of the tank.

I've been looking at bulk heads all morning. The holes are 1.5" Any suggestions on bulk heads and where to get them? How about those overflows? Are they any good or should I try and figure something else out?

In my opinion, always use the best you can get when it comes to plugging holes in the bottom of a large aquarium. For bulkheads that means Hayward. Get them from Bulk Reef Supply

Your overflow pipes could possibly use a little modernizing . Take a look at this thread Silent and Failsafe Overflow System

Good luck with your build and have a lot of fun on the way. :)

I found some bulk heads local so I have installed them and screwed in the stand pipes. Here is what it looks like. Tank is drilled in odd locations. Nothing has been sealed or glued so all can still change if need be. Like the salt crust? Ideas, suggestions...

Yeah, it needs a good vinegar bath. The guy I got it form had it on a sun porch and when he shut it down the water just evaporated out and left what you see.
I think I'm going to build some glass overflows for the corners and not use the stand pipes that came with it.

Do you think the silicone is still good since it dried out and has been sitting for so long?
Just a thought.

Spinnerbayt my advice to you is to leak test this bad boy. fill her up and throw a couple power heads in there and leave it for a month. Since the tank is so old and it was left on a porch and water evaporated out i would worry about the silicone seam. you dont want to pour so much money on all the equipment and the tank will be busted and leaks. so my suggestion is fill her up leave her for a few weeks with flow and look for leaks.

Also if the tank does not leak and all is ok maybe you can get some over flow boxes for the stand pipes. I see about 4 of them. maybe you can cap off 2 of them. just a suggestion.

Silicone seems fine but I am going to fill it up and let it run with some fresh water for a while to dissolve some of that crust on the glass and make sure it doesn't leak. I have a few ideas on what to do about the overflows and returns. I'll have something worked out soon and I'll share when I'm sure of what I'm doing. So much to do and so little time!

I made a run to lowes and got some caps for the bulk heads and plugged them off, then I filled it with FW to make sure there were no leaks in the tank and to give the crust a chance to soften up. All filled up and a couple power heads running. No leaks!!!

24 hours of FW and some scrubbing. All the crust is gone! Also no scratches that I can find.

I'm not sure on everything yet. I have a skimmer that was given to me with the tank that I could mod to make better. I also have a 75g for a fuge and I'm wanting to get a stock tank for a sump. I also have a 33L & a custom 48x22x12 for frag tanks.

Most likely at least a couple weeks. I have a lot of other stuff to do in the meantime with cleaning out the area behind the tank for all the equipment. Also constructing the rest of the wall and moving some of my other tanks around.

Not much of an update but thought I would throw up a pic of the skimmer and wet-dry/sump that came with the tank. Not sure what I can do with the sump but it looks to be about a 30g. I don't figure the skimmer will work long term but it might be ok till I start stocking with a lot of fish. Its an aquafoamaster #2 Its 8" dia. and about 30" high. I have no idea what pump was used on it. Think I could just get a large NW pump? I have thought about trying a mod and making it recirc. but I'm not sure what I should do with it till I can get something better. When I do upgrade I'll just move this one over to another tank.

Worked on building the wall this evening. I still have to make the small partition on the far side of the tank to close it in and figure out what I want to do with the area over the front of the tank. I want to work it out so that I can have access from the front. I'm thinking of a hinged fold up door or make it look like a canopy top with cabinet type doors. Doesn't look like much yet, but its getting there.

Update time again! Put in a hard weekend. Finished the framing on the fish room and Electric on the game room side, sheetrock, and doors. Well the pic's tell the story.
