Hey everyone its been a year since my 300 gallon cracked. Some of you will remember this well because you jumped though your butts to help me out. I am still very grateful for all of your efforts! I have been extremely busy now that I am going to UIC full time. I had hopes to get back to the size of tank that I had before but that will have to wait. For now I am just taking care of, and enjoying what I have now. The 210 tank (that Efrain hooked me up with, and that cet98 helped me move) is hanging in there.
The LED fixture that I built (the same week) with LED'S and drivers from Fedy is doing ok. The LED's are still doing great and meter out well. The drivers on the other hand are not. As some of you will remember I went with Fedy to try them out and for the cost. I figured that if the LED route was a bad one then I did not want to go crazy on Cree's just to find out it was pointless. Even though Cree is a better product, if I'm taking a chance I'd rather do it at a level that I could afford. I still stand by that today. So far coral growth has been great as far as I'm concerned. And today I also got the new shipment of drivers to power 210 the LED's on my fixture. Only about 40% (4) of the drivers from Fedy still work after 1 year of use. I did mention that to Fedy and they did apologize. And then I ordered new drivers to completely replace the Fedy drivers all together. I am not here to say Fedy makes good or bad drivers that have failed. I can only pass on what I have experienced. The spectrum seems to work well with whats growing in the tank.
About 9 months ago (when the drivers started to fail) I decided to try out the Inventronix 150watt driver. I would not suggest that just anyone get this driver because it has an output of 214Vdc! Yes it does this at 0.7 amps, its still not for everyone . But I can say that I have loved this thing. I ran it fully dimmed when I first got it. As the algae started to get super thick in my fuge I cranked up the intensity to get through to the stuff at the bottom. Because I like this driver so much I went with 8 Invetronics 75 watt drivers to replace my other drivers. Some people would not agree with using that many, but that is ok. I personally like to have different sections all timed out to get the effect that I like. Since I went with all dimming drivers this time, using 8 may not be necessary but I like options.
The photo here was just taken a few min ago, long after 1/2 of the lights shut off for the day. I also had to use my Droid Razr for the pic because that is the only camera I have. Sorry for the quality. But know how we all love pics good or bad.
