Things sounds good so far.

If the CaRx is off, isn't there a problem with the water going bad, inside it? Or is just the CO2 off?

Mine arrived today. I need to do an unboxing and take some pictures.
 
Alk is now 9.3 and calcium is 410 or so. So numbers are steady, some corals still look upset tho. Few Duncan's havent opened in a few days, leathers have no extension(common I know) for a few weeks tho. But I did move them after I got leds. They sat up near the top of the tank under my halide but for fear of burning them with LEDS I moved them lower so that could be culprit. Euphyillia still look good, orange froggy is open but not extended like the others.
No clue what's going on. Only change was lights and it's been a little almost two months since they have been up and running. Maybe mag?

What brand of what? Media. I honestly forget but I bought it from Phishy business my LFS. It's a GEO custom calcium reactor. But the reactor is turned off now because of a low demand it seems.

Well took my water to my lfs, and my p04 is high. 50 gallon water change this Sunday and one next Sunday as well as gfo and I hope to get it down to a better number. Also out of laziness, when i have been thawing my frozen fish food I just dump the whole shi-bang in the tank. Water, food and all. Instead of rinsing it and putting food only in the tank. Back to the basics.

Hey Corey, I would start off with about 1/3 of the suggested gfo amount and then add to it every 3-4 days while testing so you don't strip too fast. as far as rinsing the food goes....I'll look for the article but Randy Holmes Farley did a report on this and basically said that the amount of po4 that's added when you don't rinse is negligible. The phosphate is in the food itself. If you want to reduce po4 from feeding reduce how much you feed. How high is your po4 level?
 
Yeah I didn't think that rinsing food was a huge deal in itself. I did pick up some pellets today to supplement my feedings. Less waste in the water column that way.
I am not sure if the reading level on my P04. He just said it was high, I did email him to get a number tho, so I can check my results at the end of the week.

Reading was about .8-1 they say. Really high. Funny thing is tho, my tank shows no signs of algae at all. Thank goodness. But after a 50gallon water change some if the corals already look better. Planning to do another 50 gallon one this weekend. THen thinking about doing 10 gallons weekly. Fill 2 five gallon buckets and figure out how much salt to bring them in right. Then just drain 2 buckets worth and add the 2 buckets.
I would love to find a way to set up auto water changes but I'm not sure yet. Needs to work in my living room as that is where my tank is. No basement, no drain nearby. I bet I could get to 10 gallon containers and sit hem under the stand or near it and buy some pumps to make that work. Maybe a litremeter or something similar. Or 2 maxi jets, one in sump, one in clean water resivoir and run each one for a minute or two a day. I no that method is NOT IDEAL but it could work for a short period of time.

I would recommend a litermeter. They can pump the water a long way if needed. I think 60 feet don't quote me on that. It is hands down the best money I have spent on my tank. I only have to make water once a month in my garage and I automatically change about 4 liters a day on about a 300 gallon system.
 
I got a Stenner 100 gpd dual head pump I plan on running off my Apex. The 100 GPD gives me capacity to do fairly large water changes or just a bit.
 
The issue I have is it is all in my living room and any tubing running somewhere else would be exposed. I will figure something out.

So this means its time for a FTS. If this makes it any better for you, My phoshates are .04, nitrates are about one and I have major brown algae in my sand bed for no reason. The new sand was added about 3 months ago so I hope its not the diatom bloom but that already passed and now returned.
 
Well a few more water changes and things look better. Will test this weekend coming up and if all is well, I will switch to 10 gallon weekly water changes. Tank looks healthier and my anemone split last week so I take that as it must be moving in the right direction.

No real updates on the tank. Nitrates still high, and I'm growing tired of weekly water changes and tinkering with the skimmer. I am seriously considering getting a needlewheel of some sort. Something that is plug and play.
What is everyone using and how do you like it and why do you like it. What do you dislike about it etc....

well, i have officially put up the beckett skimmer for sale, and will begin shopping for a new skimmer as of now. I am leaning towards a couple brands in particular but would love to hear what everyone is using and the likes/dislikes on them
