It's never looked like this before...

Hi everyone,

Here's a pic of what my Haitian Pink Tip looked like shortly after lights on today...

I've had it about 3 weeks, and while it moves around almost every night, it's never moved very far, or went for a tumble. I feed it 2 or 3 times a week, and in fact, fed it zooplankton last night, which it accepted. It does have that bit of stringy stuff visible in the pics coming from the edge of it's foot, but otherwise the foot seems intact and healthy.

Any thoughts?

I would flip it over and see what its mouth looks like, it if is covered in its insides then remove it asap.
If it is closed tight see if you can put its foot in a bit of rock so that it will anchor.
But usually doesnt do well after it has done what yours has.

I don't know what to do about this thing. All day yesterday it stayed where I had put it, but I don't know if it's foot was attached or not. This morning it was fully expanded, but laying on its side in the sand, foot unattached. I used my tongs to guide it to a spot midway up the rocks, and kind of cordoned it off with some LR rubble. It stayed there for the half hour I was home after, but I don't know what it's doing now. It's foot was still not attached. Other than that, it looked pretty much normal.

All water parameters that I can test for seem fine. All other livestock is fine.

Yeah, fortunately it appears I don't have enough flow to keep the thing floating around in the wc, at least not where it was, and it's sparsely populated with sessile inverts, so I can keep them away from it's general area. I'm not gonna be able to put up with this much longer, though, as I do want to stock other corals and such in the near future.

I've got clowns in qt, but my understanding is that the anemone probably doesn't really "like" clowns hosting in it, so it's not likely to settle down because they are in there.

That anemone moves a lot. It might find a spot. i'd put something around powerheads or pumps in tank. I like my RBTA, he stays put. Been trying to find a rainbow also

Here's what it looked like when I came home for lunch today, after I picked it up and placed in the rocks, but it looked like this on the sand too, just upside down...

Then, about 20 mins later, after the lights came on...

I expect it'll be back to normal when I get home tonight, and then do something weird again over night tonight. :confused:

What are the parameters you're testing and what were the results of your tests?
Are you feeding it and what is your lighting?

ph 8.1-8.2
am 0
NO2 0
NO3 <5ppm
PO4 0
Alk 2.8 meq
Ca 460 ppm

I feed it 2-3 times a week, small pieces of mysis from marine cuisine.
Lights are 4 x 160w VHO.

Where does this species like to live in nature? I am not familiar with. Maybe it likes to burry it's foot in the substrate?

Could you maybe try to burry it's foot a bit in the substrate? maybe next to a rock. Wou could make like a little well of rubble and place it in it. Than maybe it could either bury it's foot or try to climb the rock and stick to it/

It also is possible that it's foot is injured (common during collection)

From what I read it like to wedge it's foot into rocks for protection. It was staying attached fine, and moving about using it's foot, for the first 2-3 weeks I had it. Foot looks fine to me.

I forgot probably the most important parameter, but I'm sure it's fine as well...

SG= 1.025 measured with refractometer

Also...

Mg= 1315ppm

Could it be lighting issues? Too much/not enough? How does your light compare to natural habitat (shallow water species, deep water...)

The fact that it has been moving everynight tells me that there is something not right in your tank for it and I think it's trying to have the current 'swep it away to another part of the reef. This is a basic question, but what is the water temperature?

Temp 79-80f.

It's supposed to be one of the hardiest anemones, moderate-high light, moderate flow. However, it's also supposed to be one of the most mobile anemones, which I fear means it'll never stay put.
