I've resorted to video surveillance

My sps is STILL being nipped at with the occaisional LPS. I've changed suspects 3 or 4 times. 1st: Pinktail trigger. The day after I removed him, corals had been attacked.

Next I thought it was some rouge crab, but I haven't seen it.

Then I thought it might be that giant nasty Eunecid (?sp) worm, but if it's that big it's been in there a while. Plus this stuff is happening during the day. The worm only comes out in the wee hours of night into early AM.

Now I'm focused on a cherub pygmy angel and a sailfing tang.

I can't seem to catch either one. So, before I tear up my tank, I've busted out the video camera. We'll hopefully catch the Perp in the act when I'm not around.

Wish me luck...... :uzi:

you need to hook up live feed so we can all peek in at your tank now and then ha ha. Would be so cool clicking on and seeing some really ugly cool critter.

will you be posting a short video of the perp in the act? that would be hilarious especially with your candid reaction, as long as you don't walk in front of the tank wearing something wierd

Wife got home from work tonight, and.....let's just say I need to be on the look out for a white van in the driveway piloted by large orderlies bearing a straight-jacket........

I'll keep you posted of any video containing the apprehension of the culprit.....or myself....

I'll vote for the pygmy. When they do come to take you away, stay calm and be as pleasant as you can it'll make it easier for you. If you suceed you may be able to put this on your resume if you ever wanted to work for the Patriots.

FYI, many webcams come with software that will ONLY trigger recording of video once it detects motion in a predefined zone. I've had logitech webcams come with this software.

It's simple to use. You just setup the camera and then outline a zone. It's like using a drawing program. When the camera detects movement in that zone, it will start recording.

This could save you lots of time if the culprit doesn't present himself within 10-20 minutes.

Those cameras are great. People use them for security for just that reason.

Funny story... I helped set one up in a server room one time. The guy that was showing me how to set it up never put that defined zone on. It emailed him 3 pictures every second for like a half hour because of the blinking lights on the servers. he had to delete hundreds of emails

Yeah. Hopefully there's some sort of threshold to set, otherwise the swaying motion of the corals or even bubbles in your tank might set it off.

Too tough to limit the area with other fish always moving around. Plus, the culprit preys on several different corals at different times. So I've set up in an area where most of them are. I check the corals, and record. If no bites out of the corals I start over. Once I see that a coral has been nipped, I'll review the tape and have my proof.

Usually happens after I forget to feed at night. Sometime the next day...whammo. So I purposely did not feed last night. So far, nothing. But I'll keep trying today. I'm sure I'll get some action.
