Jackson's 115 Gallon Custom Cube 32x32x26

Tank is looking amazing! The colors are looking great!

I'm never disappointed when I check out your tank threads.

that's one special SPS bro, growing really well for you, there must be a long waiting list for that one, put me in on that list, I am willing to wait no matter how long. Thanks

Not really a list yet but lots of interest. I'll certainly keep you in mind when the time comes. This coral is growing fast. I can't wait to get a couple frags in buddies tanks to see how it does. Some of my local SPS buddies get insane colors, I want to see if they get even better color that I am getting :)
This is very exciting since this coral seems to be once of a kind, bought as a common frag. Talk about luck :eek2::o:spin3:

Kasey thanks for stopping by :) I appreciate the good words. I'm trying my best to use all the methods that consistently produce the best results, and avoid getting caught up in hyped up methods/equipment. This is a very difficult thing to do lately because the agenda driven opinions are piled high and deep these days :lmao:

Hey Richard,

Your tank looks fantastic! I am trying to learn more about the technique of using bacteria to increase nutrient processing. I see you add different kinds of bacteria (with good results), can similar results be achieved by simply dosing a carbon source? Do you dose a carbon source on top of your bacteria dose? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks. I did use prodibios carbon source (bioptim) a few months ago and in past tanks but I'm not using in now. It's more powerful than adding bacteria and caused minor color fading. I feel that the bacteria additions is less potent than dosing a carbon source, but still effective at reducing nutrients. Polyp extension has been the best that I ever had as well. I do add a few ml of vinegar to my kalkwasser so I guess I do carbon dose very little :)

Sounds very interesting indeed... Was thinking to add a little vinegar to my kalkwasser anyway, but I will have to check out those bacteria additives. One more question, can't tell from your sump pics, do you run a refugium? I am torn on that one. Had one on the last iteration, and really see no downside, but I could use that section of sump for more rock, frags, and or reactors. Hmmmm...

No fuge in my sump. The downside to a traditional fuge is the amount of space it takes up which is an issue for me under a cube tank. I opted to use that space for rubble for more biological filtration. IMO, if you need the nutrient reduction from algae growth, a scrubber or a cheato reactor(arid algae reactor) is far more effective. If you have the room for a sizable fuge, it's a cheaper option, and I think it's cool to look at and grow pods for your fish.

I really enjoyed that colorful video you posted in Feb with all the fish swimming among the colorful corals, that actually inspired me to want more fish just to liven the movement up in my display so thanks mate. :)

The tank is looking disgustingly beautiful and very healthy, you're getting great saturation of the pigments in your corals Richard. Tell me mate, when you look at the display under just blue lighting do you get the urge to grin to yourself like an idiot - you know you're on the right track when that starts happening i tend to find :D

Biggs check this out :)

I added 2 blue reefbrites to the lighting scheme. It's like putting a black light over the corals. The florescent pigments look ridiculous under under blue LED. With all the lights on these strips add just the amount of pop that I was looking for. They also brighten up the front and back of the tank which was a little dim.

I must admit, when I saw the effects of these lights I didn't exactly snicker to myself, it was more of an Al Bundy moment on the couch, staring at the tank.:twitch:

I'm glad that I inspired you to add more fish. I hope you update your thread with new pics of them:D

Anyway, here are a few pics under the blue LED reefbrites only.

Mounted in 2mins in preexisting screw holes in the sfiligoi fixture

Absolutely stunning Richard!!!

Beautiful pics, mine come out horrible when I try this out. My "Sunset" monti doesn't look half as nice as yours under these lights

Thanks Bello. On these LED pics I had to adjust to color temperature (using iPhoto), otherwise they look completely blue.

Richard? LED's??? What the??? Radion G3 Pro next? Just kidding bro. :D Tank looks sweet. Yeah, I'd be loving fluorescence from the Zoas and LPS too. :)

That's the only thing i miss from my led days...you just reminded it to me!:)
Tank is amazing richard!
First and third pic will haunt my nights:)
Thanks for sharing

These made my eyes bleed in the best kind of way. Awesome pics, Richard!

Glad you enjoy it :) I love staring at my zoa under this light. Pretty cool:eek2:

Fail, these lights are kind of a cheating spectrum  but man, do they make corals glow! I have also shortened my T5 photoperiod because of the LED strips so they;re actually saving me some electric.

I feel the same way, kinda cheating but the coral seem happy :).

I meant your Sunset has a beautiful orange base color under the Reefbrites. Mine's still dirty brown. Have seen it go from pale to orange to dark brown etc . Maybe I'll try to take some pics under blues soon.

Did you take all these with just your iPhone?

Bello, I find the sunset monti to be very temperamental. Over the past year the sunset was usually the first coral to let me know that I overdid it with a carbon source or clean up the water too much somehow. It would take me 2 months to get the correct color back. It's finally fully colored up. These last 5 LED pic were taken with an iPhone5. The trick is to start the photo app staring at your tank. The white balance adjusts to the blue this way.

The FTS that biggles quoted was take with a nikon d40. A new camera is on the upgrade list. Getting the proper white balance under my mix of blue lighting is just about impossible with my nikon and iphone. Top down views seem to capture the only true white balance.

Thanks Scott freddy :)

SPS Dream here's my photoperiod

10am reefbrites on
12pm T5's on
3:20 pm halide on
7:20 pm halide off
8:30 pm T5's off
10pm reefbrites off

How do you like the Skimz sm203?

It seems to be the smallest foot print with the largest amount of air (lph) that is DC controlled that I can find around $500.

It would fit in my sump. I looked at RLSS but I'd have to use a 6" cone in order to fit. Also looked at Vertex and the new RO Prime skimmer (all DC) and so far Skimz seems like the best fit for my tank. My only concern is their customer service.
