Jackson's 60 Cube.... Long Story

Thanks sirreal63. I was a little nervous that the fixture itself would be an eyesore over the tank but it actually looks great. Once I get it mounted permanently I'll post a few still shots with the SLR. I'm loving the radium. It really makes all colors pop.

Update. Since adding the 400w radium to the display the growth has taken off. I went from dosing 60mls of each part of bionic, to 130mls of each part.

I had stn on some corals which i believe was from low alk. I wasn't expecting such a fast increase in calcification demands. At some points my alk was below 6dkh. Since I started testing my alk almost daily, and adjusting dosages to maintain 9-10dkh, STN has stopped and began regrowing.

I also took a my first plunge into LED's. I replaced the ATI t5's on my frag tank with a G2 Ecotech Radion. I have a lot to learn about LED :) Even at 45% I was fading acros. I was using the high grow which has a long max spectrum. I switched to natural mode for now. Somehow the frag tank is turning into a second display :D

I am loving that light, it looks like a great fit for the tank too, the corals seem happy u der it.

Thanks. Corals definitely seem to like the light. I do think the fixture is better suited for a 90 cube though :). When I the halide is on, I actually have the t5s shut off. They don't seem to be necessary for added color or spread in this smallish 60 cube.

For a 36x36 tank it is perfect, so you know what you need to upgrade to next. :D
What did you use for the video? The colors are pretty realistic for the 400 Radium.

Tank looks great! I have the same tank in the works and like seeing different setups. Just wondering why you decided not to use the low iron glass side on the tank as your front?

System is looking great mate, good to hear they're sucking up all that alk and cal - i had the same alk drop when things took off a few weeks back and was caught out just like you :( I bet that video of the display is a whole lot brighter than the camera recorded lol - nothing quite as cool as a 400W radium doing its thing over a well designed reef......
Hope you'll share some comparison pics between the LED and halide illuminated corals in a few months when they've acclimated to the two different lighting systems.

Yep :) I used a flip cam 720hd.

Thank you. I didn't really think about it :). I wanted the overflow on the right side for some reason. I didn't think about which side was low iron, wish I did now :hmm2:

Thanks! The camera gives an accurate representation of the spectrum produced but it's unable to pic up actual colors of the corals and inhabitants in the tank. The corals reflect light back to the camera and appears washed out. I will definitely show comparison pics from LED to Halide for corals that I have in each tank. It will be many months until I am confident that I have acclimated corals properly

When your calcification demands an your alk dropped, did you get stn?

FYI

I've been using a bubble magnus t01 for 5 months (purchased new 7 months ago). Nothing but trouble for me. I am doising 140mls daily now in an SPS reef. I am only using 2 of the 3 modules. 1 for cal and 1 for alk. Dosing is always uneven. My alk module never doses enough, and my calcium module dumped around 500ml's of calcium into my tank (I have since switched to unused module). I'm just happy it was my calcium that dumped and not my alk

Seaside aquatics has offered no help. They told me to purchase new heads, and that the heads are only covered for 6 months. They are considered a "wear and tear" part. IMO this product is flawed. If you have an SPS tank and dose heavily, this doser will eventually kill your tank. They should make this VERY clear in the product description. What a waste of money. DON'T PURCHASE A BUBBLE MAGNUS T01

I setup the following Dosers for my LFS:

GHL -
Bubble Magus -
GROtech TEC III -

I personally own the Fauna Marin Doser (which is practically the same as the GHL and costs the same).

GHL and Fauna Marin are very high quality, and easy to setup. I've been using my Fauna Marin unit for around two years. Very nice unit.

GROtech TEC III is a nice, high quality unit. Easy to setup etc.

Bubble Magus felt cheap and plasticky. The heads didnt seem very high quality. I like their skimmers (though the pumps are cheap).

Thanks for the input. GHL is on the top my list at the moment.

How is the tank doing? Should be looking pretty awesome by now.

Actually it looks pretty bad lol. I haven't put much time into this tank the last few months due to a very busy work schedule. The rock has been overtaken by bubble algae and the coral growth has been very slow.

The good new is that an upgrade is in the works. I have a custom starfire 116g cube built (32x32x26) and a custom stand is being built from reclaimed maple.
I have 70lbs of new tonga branch and fiji rock cooking for the past month and upgraded skimmers to a SKIMZ Sm203.

I should have everything running in 2 weeks or so. I'll update when I make some progress. Going to keep the sfiligoi fixture over the new cube ;)
