**Open to CTARS members only**

This month's prize will be a $25 gift certificate to Puppy Center, donated by a very generous member who wishes to remain anonymous. You know who you are and thank you on behalf of all of CTARS!!

This month's photo contest theme will be fish. The primary subject of the photo must be any type of saltwater fish.
* Contest is open to current CTARS members only. If you're not a member, please don't waste my time or yours by entering.
* Deadline is January 15th @ 11:59 PM EST. Any photos submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
* One entry per member.
* Photos should be no more than 1000 pixels wide/high on their longest dimension.
* Photos must be taken by you and should be taken within the past 3 months. If a photo looks familiar, I can check the date with an EXIF data viewer, so please no cheating!
* Photos will be judged on proper focus, correct usage of white balance, & composition.
* Winner will be anounced prior to the January meeting.
* Images the have already been submitted to previous photo contests will not be considered.
* Previous winners must wait 3 months before being eligible to win again.

And last but not least, a request that I have no way of enforcing. If you purchase frags with the GC... when the frags grow out into colonies and you decide to start pruning, please bring some frags to a CTARS meeting for the raffle prior to selling them.

As always, I'll be looking for judges for the photo contest, so if you're interested please contact me via PM.

Now let's see those fish pictures!!

Can't pm right now but just a quick question. Do judges have to be paid current members? Id be willing to help judge since I can't enter I figured I can't be any more unbias lol. Just figured id ask since it wasn't specified for judges. If not then gl to all that enter. Always nice to see the pics that are posted.

Judges?... What about club member voting/polls? Seems easy enough...

I'm just afraid that then it will turn into too much of a popularity contest. We ran into that problem on the forum I'm a mod on and found that having a small panel of judges prevents the chronies from coming out of the woodwork and voting for their buddy, rather than the best picture.

I don't see why that would be a problem. I'll add you to the list of judges. Thanks!

Understood and makes sense, but the same sort of thing can happen with biased judges... People will simply vote against people they don't like... Regardless of photo quality...

This sorta stuff should really be left entirely to club members only... Jmo, but sure there are plenty who agree regardless if they will voice along with me... Folks who have repeated bashed the club and continue to find excuses not to support the club, should not be allowed to contribute to the outcome of the clubs contests or activities... Pay your 20 bucks, and vote away... But until then, it's jus not right...

With that said, these photo contests are a great idea regardless... Your time and efforts are surely appreciated Scott...

just leave it be... its great regardless. it needs to stay swannys rules and thats that. just have fun, it doesn't even matter who wins its just a good time.

im going to enjoy a whole week of chasing my fish around the tank for a pic....lol i would still donate frags even if i won..lol

Pallobi is right but if you look at it in anouther view if we have non members vote for members pics we won't have a popularity contest in a way so in my eyes I think it would be better but when it comes to bod voting non members shouldn't be apart but also if its members only it should be on our club site in members only that's what we pay for and leave the public stuff to rc and along with the drama keep it to members only so it's not public lol wonder what othere clubs think about us crazy ct people

Also if they don't want to help the club with twenty bucks and get it back ten fold in our crazy discounts that that's there loss

Alright alright enough talking I wanna see some pictures lol. I've checked back a few times and all I see is discussions that can potentially kill all this lets have fun and post away. Even if it becomes a popularity contest you have to wait three months away before you can play again some people will have chances and if your picture is that good you might just win more than once its just the way it may happen. I haven't seen a fish shot yet. I can't play so I won't post that way I don't clutter the thread with images that can't be voted on but I'm dying to see what people submit cuz taking pictures of moving fish can be difficult but money shots are possible too with some patience. Good luck to all

I would suggest that based on the threads I've been reading on this forum for the last few months that apparently no one is popular.... I wouldn't worry about it.

If you have an SLR shoot in shutter priority and shoot at or above 250 fps increase iso to find a good exposure but don't go past iso 800 or image gets noisy. Some newer camera sensors can however shoot at iso as high as 1600 and still produce usable images. Good luck and come on lol

I've tried to take a few pictures of my fish with a point and shoot camera. I must admit that they stink. However, I don't think I want to spend $500 bucks for one of those SLR cameras. Maybe everyone else will have the same problem an be to embarrassed to submit a picture. Who knows, I could win by default. LOL

Even though I know I don't stand a chance I will get this shindig rolling. This is the only fish I have that will hold still long enough to snap a pic but unfortunately he likes to sleep on one of my monti caps which name eludes me right now (Icycoral knows the name I got it from him, lol). Anyways here is my terrible pic of my black combtooth blenny. Don't judge me to harshly, lol

Ok so I lied I'm gonna clutter the not so cluttered thread with a non contest submission photo. Please do not use this for the contest as I am not eligible for this go around just want to prime the thread a little so here goes

I caught a pic of my wrasses playing Marco-Polo around my rockscape lol
