Judging from the number of posts about them, Japanese deep water zoos are at least trendy if not popular. I'd like to guage how many people have heard of them, how many have them and the level of success people are having with them. Please select the poll entry which most closely describes your experience with them.

Had them for a couple months.. Issues with 1/2 or more than half. After 2 months or so of off and on furan treatments 2 colonies and 1 frag is left from a hand full of colonies and frags.

i have some now and have had issues with about half of them. 1 frag melted away after a month, another frag had half of it melt away after 2 months and finally the last frag i have i doing great without any issues so far. so i have had about a 50% sucess rate with keeping them alive.

I had two frags. One closed up after a week or so and melted/rotted away. The other, a purple and green morph has seen doing great since day one and has grown into 40 polyps from less than 20 in a couple of months.

are any fo these supposed "japanese" polyps large??

The posts I have seen all seem to be smaller sized polyps. it takes something insane anymore for me to even want it if it isnt more than medium sized in good health

Where do you buy "japenese zoo's" online?

I have seen some cool "deepwater" zoo's, but the seller doesn't state if they are Japenese or not.

They're regular sized polyps for zoanthids Bill. Sometimes slightly larger. I would say like your typical eagle eye zoanthid size.

Most of mine were around the average size for a zoanthid. but i had a few frags that were pretty small polyps. the color was amazing on the smaller ones though. sucks they melted away :(

I picked up two swell looking morphs, dipped them and QT'd them for a couple days. They looked good so I put them in the main tank in a very shady location. After about two weeks they started to pox. Since then I've done 2 complete treatments of each Furan2 dip, Mucho's dip, Interceptor dip and Marine Melafix dip (over time, not all at once!). One morph is doing its best to melt away entirely. The other is pox free though not all polyps are open.

My experience leads me to believe that while beautiful, they are more sensitive / tempermental than "regular" zoos and more prone to pox. While this could simply be an "adjusting from wild harvest" based issue, I would say 80% of the reefers I know who have had them have had at least some issues with them. The current poll results suggests the issue rate is more like 50%, which is higher than the issue rate with "regular" zoos, IMHO.

I bought 4, 8 or so polyps, frags a month ago. 1 frag melted after the 1st week, the other 3 are doing just fine. Before placing them in the tank I lowered the temp from 80 to 78. They r in full t5 light in med flow.

What temps are you guys keeping these at? I am keeping mine successfully at 79 degrees.

Also Flyyyguy my "Japanese" zoanthids are the size of normal zoas you normally find. They are not small by any means.
