My Gen 2's have been running just fine. I still need to be a bit more careful than I'd like when I put it back together after cleaning it. Get the ends out of alignment or too tight and it won't run. Low torque. Other than that, I'm OK with mine.
BTW, I have a Maxspect Gyre as well, and it has the exact same issues.

i have 2 cp40 version 3..
the 1 fish street started to ship june last year.
for me.. they are more reliable than 1st gen maxpec (wich took 3 motor units to get it working properly)
not 1 failure..
the only annoying thing is.. they are automstically go back to H constant mode.. every 15 minutes or so

Made the plunge, bought a Cp40.
It will be replacing a Wp 60 Hopefully it's enough power.
I was too leary bout buying the CP50 , too new IMO

I only knew it was a later version because the seller, who I trust, and who doesn't sell these anymore, told me they were a different generation.

I have been happy with my CP-40 and got a CP-55 hoping for a wider stream. I used it for a few weeks but it was noisier than the CP-40 it was replacing so I stuck with the CP-40. I only run it at the 4th setting so if I need more flow I can just turn it up.
The CP-55 definitely pushes more water. I may try again and see if it quiets down more. I know the CP-40 took a little while to settle in. I liked the redesigned cages too.
Yeah I need the more water no question. My tank is 12' long and 860g so need way more than the cp40 can provide. My only concern really is how well the magnet can hold. My tank is 3/4" plywood then another probably 1/8-1/4" of epoxy and rubber sealent. I know it states up to 3/4" thickness but so does the gyre 250 and the 2 I have hold no problem

Mine was secure on 15mm glass and could probably go a bit thicker. A full inch might be pushing the limits though if I had to guess.

Reef Breeders has the 25's and 40's (new generation) back in their product line and in stock. They took good care of me when I had an issue with the first gen even after they dropped the product line (crossflows). But they don't state the warranty.
Sorry for being too lazy to read the whole 58 pages. Ibrexently purchased and installed a CP-25 from fish-street and have some issues with it.
This thing is quite noisy, especially in vertical orientation. I know that this is not right because my father in law has the same Pump and bis is much more quiet.
Mine currently makes rattling noises and or a humming sound. Its better when i Put it in horizontal, but id like to have it vertical in my Cube Tank.
Is there anything i can do to fix this myself? I read something about misaligned Motor? Since my Tank is currently empty there can't be something inside the cages.
I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

Are you running the pump dry when you find it noisy?
I'd learn how to take it apart and put it back together as you are going to need to do this for cleaning anyway. I find that when I put mine back together there is a lot of room for creating issues like the motor binding, cages that rattle, misalignment...
They aren't the best made pieces of equipment, but then I have a Maxspect Gyre and it isn't any better!

Ron I am trying to decide which one I should get for my 125 SPS but have been mixed readings between these 2.
Based on your experience with both which one you can recommend me?

No, Not running dry. I just noticed that when i put pressure on the Pump where the Motor is the rattling is gone. Now its just humming. Had taken it apart 2 Times already. Maybe I'll try it again. Each time it sounds different though, so they are indeed very finicky.

Go for the XF250 you wont regret it. My last CP40 was making loud noises, so i took it apart to clean. Big mistake as the y are a nightmare to put back together. The pump started to stutter and jump, and died in the middle of the night. So i ended up buying the Maxspect. The old adage of "buy it cheap, buy it twice" certainly was true for me.
