Jebao DCP return pump?

can this pump be used exterior or does it have to be in the sump. i'm looking very a silent DC style pump but i need a dry hook up.
 
Can anybody comment on the autoshutoff feature? Will the oump shut down in low water? How long does it take to shut down and does it require a restart to get pumo running again?

I think it is about 30 seconds, and yes, you have to manually reset. It does not start again by itself even if water comes back, like when your DT water starts returning back to the return pump if there is no check valve.

I have no first hand experience with the stock controller, but someone in my DIY thread actually tested it. I think it will not harm the motor. it's just like an electric fan. The electronics in the controller can detect there is no load at the speed it is spinning and will shutdown the pump.

For this reason alone, DC pump is better than AC pump.

this was my attempt to use my own controller circuit. I have ran it dry for up to 30 seconds.

Thanks alot for the info. This is exactly what i needed....im pulling the trigger on the 8000. I only want the shutoff incase my two drain lines get pluged...the return pump will shutdown prior to my top off water from completely dumping in the system.....
 
Has anyone done any tests to see if the watts used by the pump go down when more head pressure is applied (like most AC pumps)?

Jebao DCP return pump?

Been using a dcp 8000 as a return on my sca 50 with a t splitting out to a manifold running a phosban reactor. I still have the pump barely running over 40%.

Hi Guys, I bought a Jebao 6500 DCP for my Reefer 350 setup. I am upgrading from a 30G so this is my first time using a RP. I ran into a problem where the tubing that came with the tank does not fit the return valve that comes with the pump. Any suggestions?

I think I answered this already? You'll have to reduce the output fitting and add a barb the same size as the soft tubing. I suppose you could also heat the tubing up and put it onto a bigger barb.
 
I've gotten the "er 01" 4 times now on the 8000. First time I just power cycled it and it ran an hour before doing it again. Second time I plugged it into a different outlet on my reef keeper and it was good for 2 weeks. Now it's done it twice in 27 hours today. I found another thread saying that it's "unstable current or failing controller" another user said it was 100% the impeller but this pump has been in service less than a month. I have a backup I have been thinking about throwing on there but I'd really like to know what's causing the actual issue. Anyone else having this issue? I have it running at about 90% and have a 3/4" feed turn down with about 3/4" clearance from the bottom of the sump.

I know there was a manufacturing defect on some of the dcp pump controllers. If you go on fish-street's website they have a picture of the faulty units and I believe they offer a replacement. Not sure on that last point but I am concerning the defective controllers.

Any tips on type of thread sealant to use? I put rectorseal T2 in the threads of a cheap pump (not this one, but very similar) for my water mixing station, and it ate through the plastic in 2 days. Total failure of both intake and output threads, total killed my pump since it ran dry for 20 mins while I thought I was mixing salt. I assumed it would be safe on ABS pump body, but apparently it isn't made of ABS!

Been using a dcp8000 since April and it works like a charm. I am running a reactor and have it plumbed to return water to both my display and my frag tank. It handles this with ease at about 60% of total power which equates to 46 watts according to apex. At about $80 you really can't beat it.
