Jebo 520 skimmer thread.

So does anyone know where to get the 62mm clear pvc or acrylic from for the skimmers that where missing the pipe in the skimmer cup? I just received mine and realized that its metric.

Thankss sherm I was also going to try to have a pump feed this skimmer and thought that instead of clossing that hole I could enlargen it and attach a JG fitting and use that as the feed point.
I have to pick up some uniseals and try to do a needle wheel mod on my pumps that I have ordered to complete this skimmer mod. Is there any forseeable problems with having the feed line on the cone of the skimmer?

Also is the missing tube not just a 2 1/2 "OD tube? Wonder if they make PVC in that meassurement?

caribbeanguy - its actually 1/16" short of 2.5" - even so I have yet to find a 2.5 OD pipe they jump from 2" to 3" on the sites I have seen so far. Doing some google searching 62mm is a standard pipe size overseas....

Could someone give me the mesurement for how long there rister tube is in the skimmer cup from the top lip of the bottom cup to the top of the clear tube - I just want to know how high up the manufactor made it.

Thanks

I've found a few 63mm PVC sources... could that work?

Since we have to build a new riser tube / neck anyhow, I'm wondering how hard it will be to do a "wetneck" as well. Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't seem that difficult of a mod. I've got two of the 520's coming and I'm thinking about trying that in one of them and running them side by side.

Here's one design I think I can use as inspiration:

It is 3 5/8" from the top edge of the black cup where it seats to the top.

Wow that is great information Whaledriver! Great to finally be able to put together a good skimmer without taking out a loan to do it! To bad Jebo has discontinued the 520 just when we all were catching on to it. I guess Odyssea if taking over the line in Feb. at least thats what I was told from Aquatraders.

So has anyone else done a Closed loop conversion on their 520 yet? Looking at the Euro Reef I don't think it would be that hard to convert it into one simular to their design. Just use the inlet valve as a drain, use the original outlet - pull out the riser in the bottom, drill 3 holes in main body - 2 for recirculation and one for inlet. Only question is could the body handle the weight of a pump like the Genx2400?

This leads me to the next question, what size pump should you use to feed the skimmer from the main source?

that was my original question Galford. I want to feed this pump with a 200 GPH pump and do a recirc with either a pump like the Gen X2400 or two Gen X pumps of a smaller GPH value.

My question is how do you cut the Bio ball to make the needle wheel? If I can get this done I can use the spare pumps I have here instead of shelling out the $60 for new pumps again.

Im a newbie but, why would u do a c\losed loop off of a skimmer. The back pressure on the skimmer would f it up. Acllosed loop is a closed loop. Pump, inlet , outlet, no open space....

This is a different type of closed loop. It is to make the skimmer recirculating, so the water in the skimmer gets saturated with air multiple times, and thus travels through the skimmer multiple times. It can make the skimmer much more effiecent, and is generally used on high end models to make them high end. Earlier in this thread someone did it, didn't look hard at all (from a DIY savvy viewpoint).

Sherm, If u were offended by my pseudo obscenity, get over it. The fact of the matter is, I do respect your opionions. But recirc mods and closed loop systems , are not the same. Why dont u help him out. Dont get over excited about my use of 1 letter in the alphabet.l Cmon I know u got it in ya

I'm not offended by it but this is a family friendly board and you can be banned for it. Just trying to help you out with some friendly advice. If you choose to take offense to it that is on you my friend. :fun4: I wish you the all the best!

You are the one getting hung up on his terminology use of "closed loop" or "recirc".

I haven't done a recirc mod on a round skimmer body before, only on a box. I don't have any advise in that department. For a feed pump maybe a Maxi-Jet 1200?

The Genx2400 needlewheel is about the equivilant to the Sedra 5000 "some say better" It has a ceramic shaft and uses 40 watts. The bonus is that it only cost $39.95 with the needle wheel included.

With this pump we have come up with the equivalamt to a Euroreef RS153 thaty lists for $528

Anybody have a pic of the actual GenX 2400 NW itself? I am curious to see how it looks compared to the Sedra, and also eheim impellers....
