Jeremy

I used to deal in lots of fish shipped from BalI to SFO and lost lots until
I started neutralizing the ammonia before acclimation, do you know about this trick?

After doing that I lost maybe one or two fish and that was because they died on the flight from Bali.

Sorry to hear about the loss's.

Chris

No, never knew about that trick. Thanks for the tip Chris.

reefer334/Mark - what is this "ammonia neutrilizing" trick?

Jeremy - did you make your middle rock island taller? Your tang should come out soon. My Bellus Angel pair didn't start coming out til day 4, IIRC. I just PM'ed pulpol about your crosshatch...waiting reply

The middle rocks are taller for the moment. I pulled the shelf rock on the right to deal with some inhabitants. Then, the base rock on the right decided to tip, so I took the rock that was on top of it and stuck it on the rocks in the center. They will all go back shortly.

Tbone

You neutralize the ammonia before acclimation because ammonia is not toxic to fish at a low PH which is what the water will be after shipping, you neutralize the ammonia before raising the PH in the shipping bag or water it was shipped in if using a different acclimation container thta prevents gill burn which a lot of fish will not recover from.

Chris

How do you neutralize the ammonia?

Jeremy - that unicorn is cute! You like tangs like me? Man that crosshatch is nice. Just one? I"m not picking up a pair for you?

I love tangs. I've tried to add several more, but been having a tough time.:(
And yes, just a male crosshatch. I would've liked a pair, but even if he had a pair, it would've cost a heck of a lot more than it did!!

I just assumed it was a pair. i re-read his thread, and it does say male - 7-8"!!! ::eek2:

Yep. He's a big boy! Small fish are for ##$%$^#!:D

Oh, Sorry Mark. I didn't mean you.

Looky, looky......Mark, you're a genius!

I think Mark tells everyone how great he is anyway, I don't think he needs to hear it from us. :D It was a great idea though Mark.

That crosshatch is gorgeous. Why not a pair? Getting those to breed and having even one survive would be a whole 'nother level of reefing skills. Not to mention you could start supporting all of our addictions at $400 a pop.

How are the other tangs doing? That achilles ever darken up?

I just know from experience, I put on a 4" light when I was waiting to get my canopy on my current tank. I was trying to explain to a local reefer today how I try to imagine what the fish are thinking from being collected to the wholesalers to LFS to our tanks. I guess I am officially off the deep end of the reef ;)

Terry, I use a product called 'cycle". Its purpose is to kick start your critters and they help take care of the extra contaminents that new fish might add to your biolode. There are plenty of newer products, but I still like some of the old school products.

Jeremy, things are looking good. Since you added your rhomboid, I take it you made your net covering.

Yeah, but everyone needs their ego's stroked every now and again!

I wanted to get a pair of crosshatch, but am short on cash. This way I could still get at least one and have very little out of pocket.

As for the other tangs, the purple is fat and happy, as is my scopas and the Blue Hippo. The Achilles did darken up almost immediately, but has been battling ich every few days. He's eating well, but the ich doesn't want to go away. I tried pulling him and putting him into a QT tank with medication, but things just went from bad to worse, and he stopped eating. So, in order to give him a fighting chance, I put him back into the garage system. He immediately started eating again, and the ich has gotten a lot better, but won't go away. The good thing is that all of the other fish are able to avoid getting ich, just not the Achilles.

Jeremy- You've seen my achilles. The ich comes and goes, even with a UV. They are one of those fish that are ich proned. John has had is for 3 years I believe and his does the same.

Yup. There is no 100% to keep them from getting it other than running copper... I wonder how your corals would like that

Seriously though, as long as the other fish are resistant to it, I wouldn't worry about it :)

I need to see a pic of your Achilles, JT!

I wouldn't worry too much about the ich as long as he's eating. My powder brown and blue have both had ich for a few months now. Do remember to keep up with your water changes though.

Mark/Jeremy - what's this "trick" to get fish to come out for pics?

Well, it appears that an agreement is not what it used to be. The person that I was going to get the trigger from has gotten another offer from someone that lives really close to him, and is going to give him the fish tonight.:mad2:
Man, I'm a bit P.O. while I try to type this out.
