JohnL's 20 Gallon Nano Reef

Lkd

I am a huge proponent of never submerging a heater head for that reason. The element reaches ~800 F. And the rubber, epoxy, silicone expand at a different rate from the envelope. Leaks are pretty much inevitable.
Good idea!

I do. I use a BRS value 4 stage with mixed bed DI. What would be a good way to add a pure anion stage?
John, here’s what I run:
Stage 1 - micron
Stage 2 - 5 micron carbon block
Stage 3 - 1 micron chloramine carbon
Stage 4 - RO
Stage 5 - Anion
Stage 6 - Cation
Stage 7 - Mixed Bed resin

Sounds perfect George. Thanks

John, preface to say I haven’t read the whole thread.

I pieced that together from an ancient SpectraPure 3 stage unit, an add on single stage micron, an add on BRS dual stage DI unit and and add on BRS single stage DI unit. I also added a AquaFX booster pump because, after adding a pressure gauge, I learned my water pressure across the membrane was not high enough.

So is even dosing Iodine worth it?

GAC will strip Iodine very fast. I don't use GAC for this reason. I will only use GAC temporarily to remove a treatment or for a specific purpose.

My Iodine dosing might make some cringe. I dose 20ml every other day and only test every couple of months. If the crabs are molting then I know there is Iodine in the system. Call me crazy I know

One week after removing urchin and adding 4 sps frags. No recession other than on the plug that the millipora is mounted on. Hopefully that is from handling it. 🤞
