Junior's Reef

That first pic looks like a precursor to something we'd see in the coral warfare thread.

Incredible shots and aquarium, as always Gary!

I hope Jr. is done growing!
Tired and not too smart right now....why is this?
Is the green acro in the first pic a solytariensis?
I don't know what the green table is, Nick, but I doubt it's a soli. Open windows dipserse CO2 which allows pH in my aquarium to rise.

I thought that was what you meant, just used to seeing open windows referred to pH not alk...although I do understand. Thanks clarifying.
What are you doing to maintain Alk/Ca levels? Obviously you're using a reactor, but are you supplementing with two part or Kalk?

to maintain Ca/alk/Mg

I use regular water changes with a reputable saltmix, calcium reactor, kalkwasser and liquid two parts

Amazing tank! Im getting close to putting water in my 180g peninsula, and this just gave me some great ideas. I read in anotber of yoir threads you have an mp60, are you only running that plus your returns is that enough? Did you epoxy or use acrylic rods etc. To hold your rockwork or just stack it? I read you dont do carbon dosing do you run gfo gac or just skimmer and refugium? Do you have any pics of the business end of the tank(sump)?

the first post on page one of this thread gives a link to my "New Canvas" thread which shows pictures of drains, the sump, skimmer (etc.) when I was first setting up this reef aquarium. Not much (if anything) has changed since I first set it up.

here's some pix from that thread

I run one Vortech MP60 and two penductor capped returns for water movement- that's all. No acrylic rods or epoxy holding rock together and no carbon dosing. I regularly run GAC and (rarely) GFO. If PO4 gets too high (rarely the case nowadays) I'll dose LaCl3 into a 10 micron sock while doing a wet skimmate water change. I have a lit regugium to grow macroalgae and a nice protein skimmer.

Make sure to check out the link in the first post of this thread ;)

Went to the zoo last weekend and left saying, man its a shame that they don't offer to pay Gary to run their tank.

Love the pics Gary. Fantastic job.

Gary, your tanks have always been an inspiration to me. I wish you the best with your current situation and hope things work out for you and your family.
