pistol goby question!!

pistol goby question!!

sooo yuo see how my rock is?? do they need more room? a bigger cave more surface area on floor? closed off more cave? (smaller entrance door) to feel secure? or will they just figure it out? How it is now they can eneter the cave through main entrance or two other smaller holes in back? mmmmmmm...am i over thinking this!!?? Thanks...and anyone know how the tiger pistol will play with the sexys? ive heard its fine..just want to make sure!!
Thank you in advance

overthinking again...

overthinking again...

haha sooo here is an idea..can the back wall of the cave be the tank? make kinda a reef wall? or will they not feel it to be natural..they being pistiol/goby? lmao yes im crazy uhhh? i just want them to be happy and tank to be purrrfect!!

Hehehee hey claire bear......Its looking good, your rockworks fine for the pistol/goby however make sure the bottom rocks are touching the tanks bottom and not resting on the sand....The pistol will undermine it and collapse the rocks or squish himself.....

Also i'll be there for a lot more Nooooooo's in the future, this tank will turn out nice i can feel it.See ya at the tables, draggin down pots from the donkeys!! LMAO ;)

question about bio balls

question about bio balls

sooo..i was reading some info given at the new hobby forum..Do i take out the bio balls in my 14 gallon oceanic? (I have already taken out filter) (that chamber now houses my heater)..pros and cons please??? so far sooo good and no problems..Curious now

Remove the bio-balls and replace them with Live Rock rubble, or better yet LR rubble and chaeto. You would have to scrape the paint off the back of the tank and add a light. There are lots of threads about doing this. The reason for removing the bio-balls is they collect a bunch of crud, are hard to clean and dont allow for a complete nitrate cycle. The way I understand it (I not saying its right) is the bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate can live on the surface areas of things (rock or bio-balls) but the bacteria that get rid of the nitrate need lower oxygen areas such as the inside of rock which isnt available in a bio-ball. Turning the 2nd chamber into a fuge by adding chaeto will improve filtration and help remove nitrates. Maybe someone from the chemisty forum will chime in too.

PS Aquascaping is VERY cool.
