just built a Durso Standpipe

I just finished cutting the pieces for a Durso standpipe, and dry fit it to see if it was right for my tank. The fittings all fit together really tightly, so I decided to see if it would work that way. Bang! Works perfectly, and is really quiet.

Anyone think of any reason that I should take it out and glue it together? There's no pressure in there to blow it apart. I'm thinking the fewer chemicals that come in contact with the tank, the better. What do you think?

I can only think of one reason offhand, which is the same reason I glued my together. If power were to fail, there is a slight possibility that it could drain water from one of the fittings which with my luck would be further down into the overflow then the intake of the durso. Putting more water into the sump or filter, then right onto the ground. Its prolly a minimal amount, but with the luck I have, it would be enough to dump all over the floor.

Mines not glued and I've never had any problems with it. At the most mine could drain if it did fail is probably less than a gallon so I really didn't think I had to worry too much.

Didn't glue mine. Thinking about upgrading it to 1.5inch diameter though as I am still getting some flushing.

No glue here either, and can't imagine how you could have a problem without having your sump/refugium 100% full all the time.

I've built several of those, never glued any of them, all worked fine.

I have a 1" bulkhead but the durso is 1.5" I think you're supposed to make it bigger than the actual plumbing if I remember right.

Yeah, you do want to use 1.5" pipe to make the Durso, they wont work correctly with 1".
