I found 4 of them tonight and I had no clue the male was carrying them. what's their chance of survival?

Depends on what you have for LS in your tank. If its a fairly quite (no agressive fish) tank then pretty good, if not then you might want to consider moving them.

Congrats!

Try catching them, they will be eaten by the other fish in your system, even by the parents...
You will need to feed them BBS for a few weeks, then you wean them onto other food.
Good luck!

unfortunately I wasnt prepared for them and dont have another tank that I could put them into. The 4 are still surviving this morning but with a few large tangs in the tank I am guessing they wont be lasting too long :( I will do more to prepare for the next time this happens as its amazing to see these little guys in the tank.

i would leave em be. their chance of servival is looking really good at this point. based on the pic i would say that guy is a couple months old already at least.

so far all four are still accounted for. I really dont have many options or time to do anything else for them. We are still dealing with the devastation from Hurricane Sandy and will be without power for several more days. I have been squirting cyclopeeze into the area they are hanging out and they seem to like that.

Ive been somewhat successful with these. I doubt he only had four so check around your sump. Is the male eating now? if not he's still holding babies. If you dont take them out the likely hood will that they will be eaten, also as you probably have noticed their not great swimmers, so they will get sucked right up into a pump and die. A breeders net will work for a temp. home for now.

As for trying to raise them, they're pretty easy to raise, baby brine shrip work well for feeding.
If your male is still holding, and you would like to recover the babies, be sure to check back everynight after the lights turn off. Unlike alot people think, they wont release them all at once, they usually release them over 1-3 days, as the fry become fully developed.

And if you have any question pm me and ill do my best to help... Its alittle work but very rewarding... i like to say the babies are like baby pandas to my family, i tell them im bringing them back from extinction lol

Update....

Update....

Its been a week since I spotted these and I am only able to find 2 of them now but I can see these two little guys eating and going after food that floats by their cave. I have been putting cyclopeeze in the tank and they have been eating that. I see them going after the brine shrimp I put in the tank. I will try to get some baby brine this week. I am still without primary power but the generator is keeping us going and my lfs just got power back yesterday. Hopefully these two will survive. I might have to name them Sandy and Stormy

Best of luck to you, your family and surrounding area recovering from Sandy!

I think those names will be perfect!

I thought I was seeing things when I spotted them. The two survivors have grown significantly in the last two weeks and I think they are safe from being eaten by all of the fish in my tank but maybe one or two at this point. They have found a nice little cave to hang out in. I make sure that I blast some food in their area and see them going after small pieces.

The two survivors are doing great and definitely eating. They are coming further and further out of their cave now and I saw one of them even attempt to take a bit out of some mysis that was floating by. I will try to get some pictures of them soon and post. My kids have really enjoyed watching them grow.
