Time to get the QT ready boys. If the Mag ends up coming in sick, how much is too much flow for the 20G QT tank?

I typically use a small Hydor nano powerhead in my 10 gallon QT tanks (you can use a slightly bigger powerhead on your 20 gallon tank). With mags, I use a mug inverted so that it can attach (mags like flat surfaces to spread out their foot). Once it's attached, I turn on the powerhead, adjusting it so that it's blowing across the nem's tentacles. You'll be able to tell the initial condition of the nem by how well it can hold itself up. If it's weak, move the powerhead away or move the mug, whichever is easier. If it seems to be doing okay, you can give it more flow. I would take it easy for the first day or so, just so you can assess its condition. I don't know if you can have too much flow for a mag, but too much flow is obviously where the nem looks like its holding on for dear life or if the tentacles are violently waving around.

What temperature do you all suggest for Heteractis Magnificas? I noticed Minh used 80 degrees when he treated his H. Mag.

Just about ordered one of those Nano Hydor PH's.

You like it? How's the footprint?

I saw that African, he is very nice! Congrats..

$149

Thanks! It definitely set my pocketbook back but I have always wanted a Mag or Haddoni. I was just talking to Minh the night before about if my tank was properly setup for a Mag as I was going to purchase a Haddoni at first but I did not want to chance losing my Potters Wrasse.

He help me decide to put the Mag on the arch in my tank, I just hope this specimen fits at 9"! :P

For a QT tank, I like them a lot. They have a very small footprint, and provide just enough flow to keep things moving around the tank. I also really like the magnet that secures it to the tank. I don't have to worry about suction cups failing. And, I like the ball mount which allows changing the direction of flow -- it's not too tight where it's hard to move, and not too loose where it slowly slips down. Finally, it's dead silent. Couldn't ask for more. :D

Very nice Magnifica. Best of luck with him. I love the color. Get us good picture when he get to you.
Since you don't have any anemone in your tank, consider put him directly into the DT. First sign of trouble get him out and treat him. If you do this, have him attach to something that you can take out of the reef, not to your main reef structure. Or to a LR that is medium to small where you can take it out if needed.

I'm sold! Might get one or two tonight, sounds great for a 5 or 10g.

I think he'll look great. You made a good choice. I'll take a Mag over a Haddoni any day. Love how they sway in the flow. Minh is right, be ready to treat him. Put in a place where you can get him out if need be.

Thanks for the advice Minh and Jared, I am rushing to get everything ready as it should be here in a few hours or any minute who knows. Updates to come soon.

Edit: As soon as I posted this my doorbell rang LOL

So I have started drip acclimation but I am a little worried about ammonia with all the debris in the water. I am thinking I should just float it to get it temperature ready and drop into my DT so I am not sure what I will do right now, also is it normal for them to look this way directly after shipping? I'm a little worried due to what it looks like right now.

Mags can look really bad after shipping - they just don't travel well! Having said that, I'd be inclined to QT this one. That way you can easily manage all the shmutz being thrown off via large % water changes.

Hey brother...I agree, don't stick him in the DT. He needs treatment with Ciproflaxin. His mouth is already not looking good. Trust me, I have 5 Magnifica's right now and I would definitely treat him for no less than 1 full week. Keep me updated! Please post more pics so I can help you along with the rest of the crew here.

Well I have already placed him in my DT, I should of checked back sooner. Anyways I will fully setup my HT right now. Since it is already in my DT should I just wait an hour or two and monitor it or just start treatment ASAP?
