Just purchased the Regal Angel

Just like all of the fish that are shipped to us fresh from being harvested in the wild, Regal Angels are acclimated directly into a smaller system that is run with Formalin and Malachite green. During this time the fish were give 10-20 minute freshwater baths on three separate occasions in RO water that was aerated and adjusted for pH and temperature prior to the bath. Once the fish started to eat, we added Prazi and Metronidazole to their food every other day, alternating with Beta Gluten.

Fish that are ill are not put into our main system, but rather kept in quarantine until they are better.

Is this a suggested method of quarantine for the home aquarist? If so, what is the recommended formalin/malachite green dilution to water volume? Is this done long term/full duration of the qt?

Thank you for your questions. We always recommend placing new arrivals in a quarantine tank. However, each aquarium set up is different and the individual aquarist can choose simple quarantine procedures or more involved procedures as we use at our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility.

We apologize unfortunately, at this time we do not have specific ratios available for the Formalin/Malachite Green treatment mixture, or the duration of treatment. We will contact our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility for this information on Monday and post here with the answers.

Thank you for your patience. We do not recommend the use of medications in the home aquarium unless the fish is actually sick. Dosing for Formalin and Malacite Green is as follows:

Formalin: 1 tsp/90 gallons. This can be repeated every 48 hours until cure is reached. Follow up by changing carbon and a 25% water change after the final treatment.

Malacite Green: 1tsp/10 gallons. This can be repeated every 24 hours until a cure is reached. Follow up by changing carbon and a 25% water change after the final treatment.
