Just purchased the Regal Angel

Can you tell me about the QT process that was used on this individual? I have gone through great pains to make sure none of my fish have Ich before introduction to my reef. Since the Regal is a delicate/sensitive fish I am weary of putting it through an exhaustive 8 week QT after I get it.

Was it treated for any parasites while in QT at Live Aquaria Divers Den?

Thanks!

Neptune777,

Thank you for your inquiry. Once received at our facility, all specimens undergo a quarantine process before they are released for shipping. Preventative measures are also taken to ensure the fish are sent in the best possible health. Further information, including the disease prevention methods are listed in our quarantine procedures on our website here.

Thanks Mike. I am looking for a more specific answer about this particular fish. Regals are notoriously delicate fish so I am curious how you handle the QT with this species. Also, what measures do you take to make sure fish are ich free before release? Do fish in your facility share the same water with fish that might be in another enclosure that have Ich?

Not trying to be a pain....just curious about what specific precautions you take with more delicate species :)

Neptune777,

Thank you for your patience.

Just like all of the fish that are shipped to us fresh from being harvested in the wild, Regal Angels are acclimated directly into a smaller system that is run with Formalin and Malachite green. During this time the fish were give 10-20 minute freshwater baths on three separate occasions in RO water that was aerated and adjusted for pH and temperature prior to the bath. Once the fish started to eat, we added Prazi and Metronidazole to their food every other day, alternating with Beta Gluten.

Fish that are ill are not put into our main system, but rather kept in quarantine until they are better.

avitar has to go!! Regal was beautiful!

:D

DFS: Regal has not started eating yet on any prepared foods. He/She does periodically pick at the rocks... any tricks you used to get them on Mysis?

Neptune777,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Regal Angelfish. It is very common when first introduced they will not eat as they are adjust to their new surroundings. We recommend soaking the Mysis shrimp in either Selcon or Garlic Xtreme. It will help stimulate their appetite and help them start eating.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

I have not had much experiance with angels (reefs and angels??)
Anyway.. First thing I would do -- rubberband on rock-- Nori on one- romaine lettuce on another..
Live brine , should be at Azealea Aquariums mix in some (thawed out) mysis... (I keep a small amount of mysis thawed out in frig. all the time)
