Just realized - I never posted any pictures from our trip to FSM

Amazing photos, the diving looks incredible. How long a flight (and how many stops) to get there? What time of year did you go?

SG,

hope im not stepping on your toes...this is your thread.

answer to the above:

you come from one of two directions IF coming from north america

guam or hono.

either way, your stuck on the continental (now united) island hopper.

traditionally, you stay the night in hono, since the darn flight is so early in the morning and its hard to get a connecting flight out that matches the 0630 departure.

guam departure is a bit more reasonable.

here's a good summation of all of the stops you have to make.

whats funny is the deplaning they make you do on most of the islands, search for drugs. I think its a ruse to keep extended families employed on island.

FYI,

ill be in BC (Van, Okanagan) in july. one of my favorite spots to be in July.

Great, thanks for the info and the link. I'm outside Vancouver in the fraser valley. Our summers are very nice, and you can even break out the wetsuit for diving, but you have to like rain for the other three seasons.

Amazing pictures. All my diving has been in the Caribbean and while I still enjoy shooting there, I can't wait to get to the South Pacific to do some diving. The clarity of your pictures is amazing. I agree with you that the Canon housings are nice. Thats what I had for the digital elf 600 and now my S-90 and they work great. Thanks for sharing these.

We broke up the trip a bit to make it more manageable. Flew from FLL to Honolulu and then onto Kona, where we stayed 5 days. Then back to Honolulu for a miserable night at the airport because I was too cheap to get a hotel for the night. Everything at the airport was closed, and I mean everything....not even a soda to be had...Flight left at 5.30 am with stops in Majuro and Kwajalein, about a 5 hour journey. On the way back we stopped in Honolulu for 4 days before returning into reality. We went in September.

Next trip is all booked, we are going to Papua New Guinea, Australia and Guam in December! Can't wait!

Hehe, we are in Ft. Lauderdale...current water temp 76 degrees....3 more degrees...3 more degrees...3 more degrees...Should happen next month, can't wait, lol.

constant 85 in the water...we dive bare chested or a rash guard and board shorts.

my buddy dives in a speedo only....dont give me ammo to harass you...a speedo bro?

Are you serious. The water is 76 and you won't dive it? I dive 45 degree waters up here in New England With a 7mm wetsuit and im comfortable as can be. Not meaning to poke fun at anyone but We new englanders could only pray for water that nice.

You my friend know how to vacation right !!!!!
Sounds like an awesome trip.

Are you doing a live aboard in PNG?
Are you doing Cairns for Oz (my friends weren't impressed....but then again, we are really hard to impress out here :) ) ?

Here's some live aboard rates ive gotten, just daydreaming.

Walindi Dive Resort - $1400, 7 nights, 10 dives
Tufi Dive Resort - $360/day with 2 dives
Tawali Resort - $2200, 7 nights, 18 dives
Star Dancer Liveaboard (4 star) - $3100 for 10 nights. 4-5 dives/day
MV Chertan Liveaboard (2-3*) - $2800 for 10 nights. 4-5 dives/day

I'm off to Pohnpei next week, gonna sneak a dive or two in.

Sounds like you have an awesome trip planned.

I wanted to do the Febrina Live Aboard but we are getting there a day after she leaves for her last trip before the holidays :( As a matter of fact, no Live Aboards are running during the time we are there. So we are staying at Walindi for 7 days. After that we are going back to Oz and staying and diving with friends in QLD. We did Cairns in December 2010, Live Aboard to the Ribbon Reefs and it was great. But I don't think diving straight out of Cairns would impress me either....

Have fun in Pohnpei and say Hi to Kosrae for me when you stop.....:)

So I figured out from Googling that this is Micronesia. I didn't know the FSM acronym off the top of my head... Where exactly did you vacation? Hotel/resort, which island, etc? Micronesia is on my dive bucket list & your pictures are gorgeous & only make me want to go there even more.

I loved the ones of the worms, it's neat looking through the picture seeing the different colors. The firefish are cool too. Heck it's all awesome & I'm super jealous. My best dive vacation to date was 2 weeks in the Turks & Caicos, which was pretty good but not in the same league as Micronesia. More pictures please!!!

Here is a map, so you can exactly see where the island of Kosrae is located. It is a very small island with 3 hotels (cannot call them resorts, even hotel is pushing it, lol). Nothing to do but dive, eat and sleep...but everybody is very friendly and it's absolutely safe. I would go back in a heartbeat....
