:)

here is my old one... ok design... just cheap parts and not made well... i had a hard time getting it to seal after reload and snapped the flange off the chamber body trying to tighten it down

Are you still using the PM Kalk reactor? Mine is running great. Only problem I have had is that I put too much powder in it last time I refilled and it killed the impeller. No biggie though. How do/did you like it?

Im running the smallest Barr Aquatics duel chamber reactor. I really like it. I did have the feed line clog on me though and it took me a while to figure it out. But that could happen to any reactor.

hah.. yep....

been there... broke that

Really! Is that a picture of the Octopus below or a PM cal reactor?

Thanks,
Bill

last pic is an octopus c-reactor... i ran it about 5-6months before i broke it. these things are made in korea and very cheaply. the flange edges are sharp enough to cut you.

my k-reactor by PM... i like it... works well... yeah if you overload them you will break the little maxi impeller. I run two k-reactors... one for a stony tank and one for a smaller softy/lps tank. The softy tank had a DIY PM-clone that leaked... so i decided to get a GEO. I really like the GEO... in fact i bought a 2nd GEO for my work tank. Two features i like on the GEO over the PM. The drain spout for refills and the clear lid so you can see the o-ring seal. Otherwise... their performance is the same. (not much tech about stirring powder in a chamber ya know :) )

Well that stinks. The skimmers have claimed to be built very well. I would have thought the same would have followed with the Reactors as well. Too bad!

Thanks for the info. Hey I also heard the GEO is making skimmers have you seen anyone selling them.

:D

premium carries his stuff

the people that claimed the skimmers are built well.... wonder if they have anything to really compare the craftsmanship to...

They do. If you do a couple of searches on RC there is a nice bit of information about the Octopus skimmers and the general consensus is that they are well made considering the price.

Oh and do you mean premium aquatics?

yeah.. premium aquatics

price... i've been thru the cheap stuff before... now when i need something... i go ahead and get what i think i should have gotten in the first place

this new reactor.. brian builds things with a quality 2nd to none. i could think of nobody else i'd rather have build this for me. luckily he lives only 40 miles from me and was willing to take the time to do it.

Kip....... do you run a Fuge? i saw no pictures of it . If you do do you have a picture of it.

i run a fuge... there is little to nothing in it.. .it is more of podville right now. B/W the water changes, skimmer, and rowa... there isnt much to grow macros. Sometimes is a refugium for corals... some times it is an algal scrubber fuge... sometimes it is a pod fuge. Right now it is a little algal and mostly pod.

this is more of a shot just show the fuge equipment than showing live stuff in a fuge... i will see if i can snap an update... not much different except some chaeto floating at the surface and a bunch of mysis running around

i used to clip them... but that was a battle i couldnt win

i havent had any corals fight and then one die... but i have had instances like when a prostrata grew into the superman monti .... unfortunately the monti "adopted" the colors of the prostrata and now my superman monti no longer holds up to its moniker.

I think I've had this same thing happen to me.

I have, what was, a beautiful monti that started being touched by the acro above it. You can barely see the acro above the monti in the following pic. Sorry I dont know the names of these corals.

Here is a better picture of the acro above the green monti.
29860Picture_022__Large_.jpg

These are older pics and the acro is much bigger now. The monti has been fragged a few times. But once the acro started touching the monti, the monti started losing its tan skin color. The skin is now almost completely white. It looks unhealthy to me. But the green polyps are still open over the white. However, the polyps are not as brilliant as in the above pics.

Go figure.....

Kip, do you think this is the same thing you are talking about?

probably similar... last nite i was noticing that an orange digi is touching an a. micropthalma and part of the micro is getting a faint orange tint near the orange digi

That's one huge f'n skimmer. :)

I forgot to ask you-Did you fill it up on the table or fill it up on the ground then lifted it up?

It was a PITA moving the 44# bag of media up my stairs alone.

Yeah, but its like you said earlier, it nice when they change into a cooler color, but not when they lose the color that makes them unique. :D

Mine is better made than the euroreef it replaced.

maybe they've stepped up their fabrication... i got a dual chamber reactor back when they were distributed by coralvue... as said, design was fine, but it wasnt made well... weak joints, flimsy plastic, and a design flaw in the support brace between the two chambers. maybe their skimmers are made better, i dunno. i was just not impressed with their product based on my use of their reactor. As far as your euro... was it extruded economy series or cell cast. I am not saying euros are the best in the world since i am running one. In fact, I'd like to get a custom skimmer made by the guy that made my new reactor... but it is going to be a while before he can do one for me (if ever since he is soon to be father to twin boys)
