Karl's 100G Build Thread

wow.

Crystal clear water...

What are you running for medias?

I see you are dosing Bionic 2 part.. how have you liked it?

pretty sweet dude

Looks great :)

Great setup and very informative build thread.

Looks amazing Karl! Keep those pics coming, lol

Thanks for the compliments!

I love how clean your scape is! Is that clam new?

Yup, bought the clam at CMAC from Dr. Mac. Ive been looking for a nice sized one like that for a while. Ill have to get some better pictures of it, its awesome.

While the set up seems pretty simple, I really like your tank. It's extremely well done.

Thanks.

Just carbon right now, I ran out of GFO (probably why the diatoms came back), but I only use that occasionally and in minimal doses.

Awesome man...simply stunning...what type of rock is that?

sent from never never land...

Thanks bud. 90% of the rock was Haitian rock bought at APC in Branford.

Beautiful tank. I'm a fan of the rimless artistic look. You did it well.

Photography tip: close the blinds behind you or take pics at night in a completely dark room (except tank lights).

I'd also like to hear your view on those LEDs. Radion vs. AI, now that you have had time to experience them both.

Thank you for the tips/compliments.

Here is a quick comparison of the Radion vs Sol:

Radion pro's:
1. better color rendition than sol
2. WAY better spread
3. coral and fish appear more "natural"
4. have had great growth (although growth was just fine with sol)
5. no hot spots like the sol's
6. fixture more aesthetically pleasing

Radion con's:
1. ecosmart software is still GARBAGE (buggy, unresponsive at times, sometimes Im afraid to make any changes)
2. ecosmart live still in BETA phase so Im forced to use my ancient PC to program lights because, SURPRISE, there are bugs associated with that as well and it wont let me load a graph with my macbook (Ecotech was very nice to spend ~1 hr with me on the phone last week to resolve the issue but still havent heard of a fix)
3. Would really love to have a controller for the lights alla sol's. I know people dont think its that big of a deal and most "set it and forget it", but I like to view the tank under different light conditions at random times of the day. Just switching to actinics is a chore, have to connect to PC etc.
4. No moon cycle (this one baffles me since I would assume it could be incorporated very easily)
3. Wish I waited for the Radion Pro, which brings me to my last con
4. Price (Pro supposed to retail at $950!)

If u had it to do all over would go with the radion again or the sol? Going to LEDs trying to decided what to get for 180.

If you put it that way, I think Id go with the radions again. They're awesome lights once programmed and the inconvenience of adjusting them is minimal in the grand scheme of things.

No real tank updates other than the fact I recently added an Apex, which I love. Always wanted one, but thought they were kind of a waste of money until now. I bought it because the winter was been doing a number on my temp swings, but its a great tool to have on a reef tank. Being able to turn my return pump/skimmer off during a water change with my phone instead of pulling cords was worth it enough.

Decided to play with the camera today:
