Kessil A350

Hi,
I have one A350 in a tank with 26 * 21 * 27. I have it raised 7" from the water.
With 32", one A350 should be ok, but you will need to raise it about 10" or 12" from the water to have light over the entire tank.

I agree, you have to hang it higher to get better light spread. I have my a350s at 15" over the water and they have great spread!

Cheers,
John

Thank you for your response. So A350W is not necessary right? I'm planning changing my current LED because there are dark shadows on the right and left of the tank.

The a350w's are a better choice if you can't hang your fixture up high as the spread on them is impressive. They are a better choice for shallow tanks where you can't hang the fixture very high.

I use the a350's because when I get a deeper tank (my tank is only 16" deep), I want the ability of the a350's to penetrate deeper into the tank so I can grow a wider variety of corals at deeper depths.

John

Anyone have pics of one 350w over a 40b? im thinking of putting up a 40b and already have a 350w....just want to see it set up. thanks.

At about 1:02-1:04, they show a a350w over a 57 gallon tank which has same footprint as 40b. The only difference is the 57 is taller and it looks great and seems to give pretty great coverage.

John

They actually changed that tank with two 350's .Looks much better in the link below .In the video link you posted there is some shading in the rear corner's . Not sure if they still have the tank as it went up for sale . Kinda off topic . Do you still have the maxpsect's ? if not what happened ?

I still have one unit, I can actually take some pics of my current lighting setup when I get home later today and post. I use the maxspect unit to produce a dawn/dusk effect and moonlighting effect and the kessils are used as my main light.

My kessil maxspect hybrid lighting system. :)

There you go, it looks like an alien ship ready to land over my reef. It works for me now and gives me the dawn to dusk effect that I really like with a fully programmable LED lighting system.

John

Thanks John,
U really thinned out the SPS collection . Looks good though .

Hey mordibv, the SPS collection was inadvertently thinned out secondary to me being a bonehead and frying them with the maxspects... I accidentally left them on manual control at 100% on all channels for 3 days while I was away on business and most of my large SPS colonies RTN'd. With that catastrophe, I just let my tank kind of maintain itself and just occasionally fed the fish.

I am getting back into it though and I am hoping that I can get it back on track. The kessil lights have really reinvigorated my excitement about the hobby!

I got one of these over my 50g cadlights tank. So far the spread is wonderful, I just can't say how well they keep things alive. I've had mine for about a month now. Things seem to be doing okay. but nothing is growing.

What's everyone's experience with these lights on sps?

7 months with kessil A350... sps growing very well but I had to be careful with lps because they were not reacting very well with both channels at 100%.
Running blue channel at 100% and white channel at 35/40%.

Wha would I need for my 300 gallon its 72x36x27 eith teo centerbraces .I'm thinking 6 a350n when they finallt come out what do u guys think

I ended up switching back to T5's after 3 months of trying to work with Kessil. Long story short I had two A350's and the colors did not match. After trying two different replacements, both had problems, bad potentiometers, mis-firing channels, and color/intensity issues. They wanted to send me three more lights to try out so I could match the color with the one I had.
With one out of four working correctly, I would be picking from 7 lights to find two that match?. Having a 25% success rate with the lights I have on hand I decided that was not good enough to gamble on my tank and took them down. After talking to the manager I found out that the potentiometers are not consistent under 30%. I wish I would have known this when I was researching lighting options, as I would have made a different choice.
I really wish they had worked, they do put out a nice shimmer. One thing I do notice since switching back is the lack of shadows, I have a lot more real-estate for coral that I did not notice before.

It seems like it would be hard to tell if you are acclimating properly when it is not consistent under 30%. I wish that I had a par meter when I was running the Kessil's, it would be interesting to see what the difference was.
