Kessil A360WE

Glad to help! Yes, my coraline growth, especially on my glass is border line out of control and I don't dose a thing either. It's pretty tough to keep under control and I really need to get in and do some serious scraping with my algae dozer pads. That said, my rocks have litterally grown inches over the years.

As for clouds, as of this moment there is no way to implement clouds or weather feature with Kessils via Fusion. I suspect that is in the works. You would have to create profiles for that. The only concern I would have is that Fusion creates weird lines of code for the profiles unlike the code you would normally write through the native Apex interface. As such, I'm not sure how that would be implemented in conjunction with the Fusion code. Truth is, I am sure it would be simple but I just haven't bothered to check. If nothing else, you could start a thread in the lightin or Fusion section at the Neptune forum at neptunesystems.com

Edit: I went and posed the question on the Neptune forum about adding weather profiles to Fusion generated Kessil programming as I was curious myself.
Here is a link to the thread.

Once my lights arrive and I get them hung, I will be looking into the weather options. It was my belief that only through the VDM would you be able to add at least cloud cover. But then again, you are using a VDM so go figure.

Looking forward to seeing the LA Fish Guy episodes featuring your tank! :D

I just looked at the question and answer and started to feel stressed again! I will wait and see how you do it and if you like it see if you can talk me through it!

I'm not sure I will be adding weather as I don't see a real need for clouds. If I decide down the line to dig into it further, I will look back to this thread and message you. That said, it should be very simple. Just add the weather code at the end of the intensity outlet programming after all the code created by Fusion..

So you create a profile called "Cloudy". The control type would be weather. You would setup the clouds as you like in the profile. Their are fields for that. Then you would decide whether you want the clouds to occur at predetermined time. If so, you would use the If Time statement shown in that thread. If you want them to occur randomly, then you would use an OSC statement. You can also have them occur based on local weather if I am not mistaken. I'd suggest reading the comprehensive manual for using If time, OSC and additional weather features.

hey guys need some advise. i'm buying 4 kessils for my 180 (6x2x2). My tank is SPS dominated and i have most of my sps towards the middle level of the tank. I'm wondering whether i should get the a360n or the a360we.

With a 24" deep tank, I would say the WE unless you plan on using more lights to make up for the more narrow light pattern of the N. Three WE's would light your tank up very well IMO.

Has anyone hung their kessil from the ceiling? If so, how did you manage the cords? Can anyone help provide any details on the power cord, how thick, how long, etc? My wife would want me to run all wires up to the ceiling somehow, but my concern is getting them back down to the apex and power supply. She doesn't like the look of the gooseneck and wants them to look more like a pendant you would hang over a bar.

I would say the cords, which have a 'brick' supply mid cord, are about 10 ft tops. I would detangle the mess under my tank for you if I wasn't so lazy! But I don't think they are long enough for that. Dependant on where the apex is, of course.

I saw a video where a reefer removed the lens off his Kessil 360's and replaced it with the adjustable lens from LED Group Buy. He claims it made a night and day difference using the Lumia-5-1-optic-lens?

Any chance you have a link to that video?

I've had my 2 up for about a week and am having an issue. One of the lights is perfect, but there is a clear color banding around the outside edge of the light. About an inch of purple and 1/2 inch of yellow/green. Any one else find this?

Hey man, I wanted to let you know that I got my lights hung and programmed through my Apex!

You were so right when you said that the programming would be simple going through Fusion! I had it done pretty quickly then fine tuned the two channels. I am still doing that until I get the exact look that I want. Thanks again man!

I have a question for those that have been using the Kessil A360WE for a while. I have switched from Radions and am wondering what would be a good starting intensity for my 90 gallon mixed reef? I have zoas, LPS, towards the bottom and middle, and SPS on top. I also have a Crocea clam on the sand bed.

Right now my lights come on at 11:00 and has a two hour ramp to 55%. It stays there for 8 hours and then a two hour ramp down and off at 11:00.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I got the lights hung and programmed through Apex Fusion. You were right on when saying that the programming was simple. Once I saw the wizard I was all over it!

I had it set up quickley and then started fine tuning it to the color that I like. I guess I will most likely mess around with it to get it right and the intensity based on how my corals take to it. At least I know how to do it! Thanks again for all the help!

The best way would have been to take par readings with your Raions followed by using the par meter to measure your kessils and then starting with 10-15% lower par to acclimate your corals. Since you didn't do that, I think you are on the right track by starting at around 55%. I'd suggest raising it 5% every week or two. I think the max you would need is 80% but without knowing how high off the water you have them, how deep your tank is and how deep the upper level of your aquascape is, it pure speculation and even with that info, without knowing how you had your radions set, their height and most importanly the par numbers at different depths, there is still some speculation involved. In the end, start off low with the intensity like you are doing and watch your corals. They will be the best gauge of if you are giving them too much intensity. If you start off low, at least you won't have to worry about shocking them with too much light, too soon,

Glad to help and glad you got them setup easily. Fusion is certainly a great tool for setting these as well as other lights up! I was very pleasantly surprised.

Sorry about the lack of information. My tank is a standard 90 gallon 48Lx24Hx18W. I have the lights installed about 10" above the water line.

After doing a little more research on what other Kessil owners (including you), are running them at, it seems that I am low on the intensity. I bumped them up to 70%. I feel comfortable with that as the corals were accustomed to Radions which I was running at 60%. I then had two Kessil 350Ws on the tank for a week before putting these on. I will keep an eye on my corals but feel that they will be okay.

I actually did take PAR of the Radions but have to wait in line as I do not own a PAR meter and use the one from my reef club.
