Kessil A360WE

This is my profiles; I am trying to figure out why the master comes on and the other one takes a couple of minutes as well when they turn off.

As I explained in my post above. The Kessils shut off around 14%. It may be closer to 12% but 14% is a safe number to expect. The way to fix it is to add additional points or profiles.

Do the following.

Create two new profiles.

Int_On
Ramp time 1
Start Intensity 0
End Intensity 14

Int_Off
Ramp time 1
Start Intensity 14
End intensity 0

Modify these profiles (I made the changes noted in red):
Int_Nigh
Ramp time 180
Start Intensity 80
End intensity 14

Int_Sunr
Ramp time 240
Start Intensity 14
End Intensity 80

This is an older screen shot of my Kessil program shown in Fusion. I have since modified mine a bit and now have them shutting off at around 12%. Not the first set of points and the last set of points. Those are there to get the lights to turn off fast by going from 10%-0% and vice versa. I since modified it a bit more because there was still a slight difference. The actual point at which they shut off is between 12% & 14% so you can do some experimenting to find out which % gets them to shut off at the same time. Like I said, the link cable between your two lights could have something to do with when they shut off. The difference in voltage between 12% and 14% is very little (.2 volts) and something as simple as a link cable and the resistance in it could impact when the second light in the chain shuts off.

You may actually be providing too much light. 90% at 4" off the water is a lot more intensity than you realize. Also, 5% a week is a pretty fast increase. You color settings may also have something to do with it. 14K would be about 95-100% on the color and should be a pretty white light.

Wow slief is correct. at 60% 9-10 inches off the surface, the PAR reading from my 4 kessils is roughly 350 or so depending on angle etc but thats corals at 12" below the water surface. At 90% 4.5" from surface, you are burning your corals. You better reduce that ASAP.

BTW my sunset montis are growing like mad at the bottom of my tank almost 30" from the light at 60%. And they never looked better!

Just wanted to give credit where credit was due. I dropped the intensity down to 45% max and 2 of the 3 acro's are coloring up nicely while the 3rd is getting a little more color. The sunset monti also seems to be getting back to a deeper red but very slowly, which is fine.

Thanks again for the advice!

Very glad to help! Even more happy to hear your corals are rebounding since making the adjustment! :beers:

If you start increasing again. Go really slow Like 5% per month slow and allow yourself several days between adjustments. That way if the corals don't like the change or you hit their limit, you allow them time to react so you can back off before doing any damage.

Hope you have a happy new year!

Hi Everyone :)

I'm thinking about trying the Kessils, but have a couple of questions....

For those of you that have a D.I.Y. screen on top of tank. do you still get a lot of shimmer ?
The clamps for the gooseneck, Will they fit on acrylic 1" euro bracing ?

Thanks, and Happy New Year !

I have 2 A360WE on my 90cm x 60cm x 60cm tank . But now I am planning to combo with 4 T5 HO lamp as I think Kessil alone is not really given good growth of my corals

I run a screen one one side of my tank that uses 1/4" transparent mesh and I haven't lost any shimmer or any visible intensity.

Ton if shimmer with the clear 1/4" mesh stuff ordered from BRS. All depends on surface agitation. It's pretty incredible though.

I run 4 of the Kessil 360we on my 120 gallon. I had eggcrate on top while I was working on the lights and it did reduce some of the shimmer. This may be less with the narrow version lights. I also set it up with 2x54 watt ATI Blue Plus and the T5 bulbs washed out all of the shimmer even with the Kessils at 100% intensity.

They should fit fine. I have 2 Kessil 150 on my small frag tank that is 1/2" thick. The space between the clamp looks to be 1 5/16". The 1" in the horizontal dimension should make it stable. How thick is the acrylic? I would guess that you wouldn't have any issues with teetering if it was 3/8" thick or so.

Thanks Tcook...

I have 1" acrylic..... If the clamp is 1 5/16 it should work huh....

Would have happened last week but I fat-fingered my order and got a pair of 360N instead - arghhh!
lol
Now you dont need to feel alone. I did the same thing.
:headwally:
I'm lighting the 170g 72X24X22 with 3X360WEs and 4 t5s.
Will be going in my canopy and replacing my MH + t5s

May add a Kessil 150 or 2 to the 29g anemone tank later.

Hi everyone..
Well i'm all most ready to pull the trigger on buying 3 kessil 360we lights for my 250 gal.
I am just concerned about how they would look over my 72L" x 25H" x 32W" tank.

Does anybody here have a similar tank with the kessils , that can share a pic of your set up ? I would greatly appreciate it...

Thanks,
Keith

What's wrong with your current light setup?

I'm sure others will correct me on this but 3 seems deficient. I have 4 kessil 360WE over a 30x30 tank and everything never looked better. Way better then when I had 4 Hydra 52's over the tank. I didn't know what to do with my hydra 52 so I have 2 of those over my tank too for edge cover. The red's on my corals are really coming out now where as in the past they were stuck green. I've got polyp extension I never had.

If you do pick up 3 360WE, just be prepared to add more if its not enough.

Will do... I'm just going by what they say on their web site for coverage..

Still looking for any pics people can share of their Kessils over their tanks :)
