Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

The next bug fix update was supposed to come out two months ago, and probably won't be released till January - that's from support. On the other end of things the sales associates are now refusing comment on if the fixture will ever be Apex compatible, which is contrary to what they were saying in January / February.

Somewhere along the line things have gotten to the point that I really believe they're on track to EOL this fixture as fast as possible and leave it as-is. They seem to have counted on the brand loyalty to carry everything but the competition hasn't sat idly by, has connectivity options that aren't limited to mobile apps and in the case of Phillips, isn't some small OEM randomly testing the waters.

I don't think they would scrap the AP700 after years of research and development and those costs. The problem is the app support and bugs, the fixture it's self seems great to me, no complaints as far as color or growth from what I'm seeing in my system.

I wonder if Kessil sees these app flaws as more of a nuisance and not putting enough resources to resolve them.

To be completely honest I've not had any trouble with the app myself but I'm not naive. There has been a lot of talk of it.

Who has contacted support and what was their response?

Ok so heres my 2 cents.

First, if I had a nickel for every time I contacted customer support and talked to the Asian guy..... I'd have me an ELOS 160XL, Bubble King skimmer, and all the fixins. My biggest complaint is I'm a MAC user, and the updates cater to Windows users only. So I can't update my light.

Second, I honestly don't care much about the moonlights....... I like my fish to be able to sleep. I have come out for a drink of water way to many times to find all my fish out and about at 2am as if it were 3:00 in the afternoon. At night my tank now goes black.

Third, I agree this light should used as a "set it and forget it". Someone on this forum once said that Ecotechs Radions biggest weakness was allowing the hobbyist to tweak and alter colors and all that other fancy stuff, which did the corals more bad then good. Kessil does not really allow for that.

Fourth, the Aurora, Cloud, Rainbow, and Storm feature is a complete joke and all it does is scare the living Jesus out of the fish. I personally don't use those features.

The app does have some issues that need attention, but Kessil seems to be late constantly for the party.

I've not had any of those problems. For me the light has been set and forget, in fact it's the only thing on my system I've not had to put much though into.

I've said more than a few times that Kessil Logic is its biggest best feature and where other lights fail it's users. By limiting the the control of the light and ensuring that no matter the settings you set for the Kessil you are assured it will be good for your coral. Not so with any other LED do you have that safety net.

I'll admit that I love the light. However maybe if I had the problems you had I might reconsider that. Other LEDs have those moon light, effects, and control issues. The AP700s weakness is that it's limited to a few devices with no real back up.

I didn't know the PC app was even out yet, when was it released? I've only used my iPad and iPhone.

One thing I know with not doubt they will grow colorful corals! I've never had to wonder if another light would perform better because I've got results. The corals that may be slow growers still have great color and the blah colored corals grow well, but most of not all have both. Once I solved a few issues like low pH and AEFW I've been so tickled I stare at my tank and take pictures nearly everyday.

Look at the longevity of the 150's and 360's. I don't think Kessil has given up on the fixture. In fact I think it's best days are ahead. When the 350s first came out everyone questioned if LEDs could even grow coral let alone a new comer, Kessil. After a couple years people took notice as results started coming in: "These lights make corals grow like weeds!" They are still very popular today.

My system as is has only been set up since mid Aug and finally dialed in about Oct and since then I'm the happiest owner there is.

If you can stand it, don't give up on this fixture just yet, I think Kessils LED technology and research truly has something here that that others have missed.

I'm not even convince buy the new Phillips fixture. They all still using off the shelf LED technologies. They haven't brought anything new to the LED game. The G4 lens are nothing better that the lenses on any of the Kessils.

I truly hope that Kessil gets these issues fixed and honor the buyers but supporting the product.

I think he is referring to the firmware update utility is windows only? I am in the same boat. No Windows here (Mac/Linux). I will need to go buy a laptop to update the firmware when they finally get something released.

I agree that the hardware is decent, just the means of controlling the light are the points of frustration. Since I don't have an iPad, I had to wait quite a few months after buying the light for Android support before I could even begin to use it. As I am software developer in my career, it is a bit like nails on a chalkboard waiting while Kessil struggles with what should have been the easiest part.

I know they have Red and Green adjustment now. Though I have never actually had it available in my platform (Android phone). Hmm perhaps it is in my Android tablet version ... hmm opening that version up, the lights do not appear, so I would have to set them up again from scratch. If they would just bring the 2 phone platforms and 2 tablet platforms in line wiith each other, that would be huge start.

I have been pretty good this year, maybe they are planning to surprise me for Christmas ?? :)

Although I have only had light for a month, it has worked flawless, yes there are issues but radion, AI, geisman... all have issues. I think kessil model is reactive instead of proactive so they will step up, I think they are still ahead of other manufactures. Nice house cleaning six pack!

You don't need to buy a laptop, just download VirtualBox and run Windows in there. Also, Macs have Bootcamp available.

Don't get me wrong, I do love my Kessil. I just wish they would but as much effort into the app and listen to their customers. If you recall we all waited anxiously for the September release date. IMO.... I don't think the light was fully ready for the public. Kessil had a lot of presure from vendors and customers waiting for this light.

I don't understand what it is that you want that the app doesn't already do? I mean, sure it has flaws but fundamentally does everything that needs to be done.

What is it that you and others are doing that there's a need to constantly use their lighting app?

+1. I run VMWare personally. The only cost is the OS and AV if you don't trust a free version.

Yea, I have used the app a handle full of times and that it. Set it and forget it. Never had a single issue. Some folks are finding some strange bugs but nothing that worries me, I'm not asking it to do anything but grow my coral and look good.

Sorry late post referenc d sixpackgarage tank remodel. I was going to ask how high you all run the light (intensity) but how low are you going and getting good results for n my fed reef (few sps). Currently at 40% and all looks great would like to borrow a PAR meter to find out what levels

And yes as of last night, I could not resist throwing the 360s back on to better illuminate my stunner and some acros on the left and some other acros on the right in the back near the monti

You could start a reef fire those lights. My tank is 36x22x22 light is 8" seems pretty bright at 40% peak. I don't have anything stretching out towards light. Only 1 acre but it's still plating no branches

Use all of the blue wheel, deep blue for dawn and dusk light blue for peak intensity and fades onto dawn/dusk. Really need a par meter eyeballs not calibrated

Got the email this morning that new AP700 software for both android/ios and windows/mac is out. Had to send some info to get links.
