Ok so heres my 2 cents.
First, if I had a nickel for every time I contacted customer support and talked to the Asian guy..... I'd have me an ELOS 160XL, Bubble King skimmer, and all the fixins. My biggest complaint is I'm a MAC user, and the updates cater to Windows users only. So I can't update my light.
Second, I honestly don't care much about the moonlights....... I like my fish to be able to sleep. I have come out for a drink of water way to many times to find all my fish out and about at 2am as if it were 3:00 in the afternoon. At night my tank now goes black.
Third, I agree this light should used as a "set it and forget it". Someone on this forum once said that Ecotechs Radions biggest weakness was allowing the hobbyist to tweak and alter colors and all that other fancy stuff, which did the corals more bad then good. Kessil does not really allow for that.
Fourth, the Aurora, Cloud, and Storm feature is a complete joke and all it does is scare the living Jesus out of the fish. I personally don't use those features.
The app does have some issues that need attention, but Kessil seems to be late constantly for the party.
I've not had any of those problems. For me the light has been set and forget, in fact it's the only thing on my system I've not had to put much though into.
I've said more than a few times that Kessil Logic is its biggest best feature and where other lights fail it's users. By limiting the the control of the light and ensuring that no matter the settings you set for the Kessil you are assured it will be good for your coral. Not so with any other LED do you have that safety net.
I'll admit that I love the light. However maybe if I had the problems you had I might reconsider that. Other LEDs have those moon light, effects, and control issues. The AP700s weakness is that it's limited to a few devices with no real back up.
I didn't know the PC app was even out yet, when was it released? I've only used my iPad and iPhone.
One thing I know with not doubt they will grow colorful corals! I've never had to wonder if another light would perform better because I've got results. The corals that may be slow growers still have great color and the blah colored corals grow well, but most of not all have both. Once I solved a few issues like low pH and AEFW I've been so tickled I stare at my tank and take pictures nearly everyday.
Look at the longevity of the 150's and 360's. I don't think Kessil has given up on the fixture. In fact I think it's best days are ahead. When the 350s first came out everyone questioned if LEDs could even grow coral let alone a new comer, Kessil. After a couple years people took notice as results started coming in: "These lights make corals grow like weeds!" They are still very popular today.
My system as is has only been set up since mid Aug and finally dialed in about Oct and since then I'm the happiest owner there is.
If you can stand it, don't give up on this fixture just yet, I think Kessils LED technology and research truly has something here that that others have missed.
I'm not even convince buy the new Phillips fixture. They all still using off the shelf LED technologies. They haven't brought anything new to the LED game. The G4 lens are nothing better that the lenses on any of the Kessils.
I truly hope that Kessil gets these issues fixed and honor the buyers but supporting the product.
