A360 or wait for A700 prototype

Hey guys

I am sold on Kessil's however I got a few questions before I pull the trigger.
I have a 75 gallon tank with center brace and canopy over my tank that allows for about 10-11 inches of clearance from water surface. If I put A360's inside the canopy the leds would be about 5-6 inches above the water surface. Do you see any coverage issue from the LEDs being only 5-6 inches from the water?

I saw a video on youtube demonstrating their A700 prototype, the profile for this is much thinner so should I wait for this to be released( assuming the above is an issue), any rumors on if it is even going to be sold and when?

A700 would be perfect for your tank. But I've had the kessils 6-7" above the water line in a canopy and they have been fine. I cut holes in the top to raise them up. Here's a picture, this was on my 90 gallon

I have a 37 gallon with a center brace and I am changing from AI Hydra to Kessil. Do I need one or two of the A360W? I was thinking that if I get one and it it in the middle it will be right above the brace.

I just checked BRS and there are a couple different A160, Deep Ocean Blue, Ocean Blue and Sky Blue. Which one do I look choose?

If there is a big different in performance and only a 75 dollar difference per fixture, I would rather get the 2 A360 for a possible tank upgrade in the future.

Is there a big difference in performance between the 160 and 360? spectrum, controllability ect?

The A160 are tunable like the A360. The ones you are referring to are the A150 which are not tunable

Twice the intensity and better spread. For the price and with future expansion in mind, the 360WE is the better choice in my opinion.

I've got a single kessil A360WE over my shallow 2foot nano. Corals are SPS mainly with a few softies. Tank runs with no sump or skimmer, just a reactor running activated carbon, and occasionally rowaphos, and regular water changes. Tank has been running for about 3-4 months. Coral colors are ok but improving as I'm finally beginning to register a little nitrate. I think my nutrients were too low to start with as my sps lost colour at first but are now improving and growing. Love the kessil to pieces

Impressive, thanks for sharing!

Hi All,

After some suggestions here if I may. I'm putting together a full blown SPS tank (nano). Tank is 36 Inch long, 12 Inch wide and 10 inch deep.

Was looking at lighting this system with 3 x a360N. Reason for going the "N" version would be:

1. Spread of light is 18 inch wide, tank is only 12 inches from front to back, so less wasted light spill.

2. Can run these at less power % and if I want to crank them up I always will have power on hand.

Thoughts would be appreciated. Would you go 3 x a360N or would the wider versions give me less shadowing?

Regards

Anyone dealing with to much shimmer? I have a 6' 220 with 3 360W and the shimmer is nice but when the surface of the water is agitated, the shimmer is very distracting. The lights are hanging 9-10 inches above the water.

I have 4 on a smaller tank and it looks great. Mine is 65x30x24. I had the same problem as you on my 90 gallon. Unless you either buy another kessils, or get used to it... You'll have to reduce surface agitation or add t5's. You could also add a reefbright strip to reduce it.

I have MASSIVE surface agitation. And my 4 kessils light my tank up just fine

Can you please post a pic of your set up ?

I have a 6' 250 and was thinking I would need 4 360w. Is 3 enough for yours as far as coverage goes?
Thanks,
Keith

Sorry goreef170, I have no way to post a pic. I find is plenty for my tank which is 30" front to back and 24" deep.

It would also depend on what you want to grow. My tank is mainly lps and softies.

No problem julie :)

Mine is a mixed reef with sps acropora's"¦ 72 x 32 x 25 high.

Hi!
I have one kessil 360W in the middle of my tank, with two 250W MH one on each side.
I love it for the power, the adjustable color and the small space it takes. I find the shimmering a little too much but it's ok.
My tank is sps, lps and little softies. It's started in november from my old 125 gal 9 years old, which was lighted with two MH.
My tank is 96"x31" x 26" h.

I've got 8 Kessil 360WE's over my 480g display. It's 4'x8'x2' tall. The lights are controlled by my Apex. My tank is primarily soft corals with some LPS mixed in. My corals love the lights and so do I.

Gotta a question I just recently purchased 3 360 I love the controllablility of them!

I Have a 265 that is kind of getting a redo from some down time. I will probably be buying more not sure if 3 will be enough for a sps tank.

My question is is there any difference with growth or light penetration from 10k to 20k in color. I know everyone used to say 10k would be better for growth and 20 k would make the colors pop. Not sure if this is the same with LEDS?

Everyone tanks look great! Were did you get those mounts and and how high do you have the lights over the tank? Looks like you mostly have softies?
