Kessil Club

The gooseneck doesn't allow 2 feet over tank. I'm not bleaching anything except the mystic sunset which I moved to the sand bed in shade to try to save. I've just decided to lower the intensity and adjust up once corals are stretching more for the light. I've been getting brown and tan color in my sps except one. I've had issues with nitrates and phosphates so I've been doing 2 water changes a week to lower the numbers. I think that browned a couple corals.
I don't know if you experienced this but at first when I added my Kessils I had experienced some browning in the beginning but slowly later the colors started coming back and that's with good parameters.

I've only had the Kessil for a few weeks now. So I backed down the intensity and I'll ramp it up slowly over the next couple months.

My tank and what ramp currently looks like.

How long has your tank been running and it take for the corals to handle that output?

I know depending on the lighting they came from they have to be acclimated if our tank is more intense than the one it left. I've shadowed almost all my corals for a few days then moved them up or out.

Guess my tank isn't handling this light as well. I've dropped down to 20% max intensity now and have great extension and color seems to be a little better. Taking it one day at a time. My water may be too clean.

I'm going to pick up a 48" T5 Dual High Output fixture to complement my a350's. I'm thinking about using a ATI coral plus and a true actinic. What would you recommend?

I'm adding the t5 because my softies/lps haven't really grown since I switched to the kessils a year ago. Also, the colors don't seem to pop and there isn't much visible color in the 400-420 nm range.

Looking for some help on lighting intensity/color for a mostly mixed tank. Mostly softies, 4 LPS, added 1 SPS today. Running 2 a160's, 6 inch above the water. Tank is a 40B.. I've had the lights a few weeks now and don't have a controller, so have been manually adjusting. Some days everything looks great, other days not so great. I turned them on this morning at about 25% intensity, and everything looked good for the most part. I have a controller coming the mail tomorrow so would like to get a good schedule dialed in.

lookingfor sugestions. Im in the process of building anew tank. its a 66 gallon 32x24x20. wondering what the best set up would be.... im going to hook the light up to a apex. could i use one 360w most of my rock work will be centered in the tank. or would i be better off with 2 of the smaller lights?

Mxett, that is a phenomenal little tank on that coffee table. I am now inspired for when I'm old enough that my kids won't destroy it. It is awe inspiring.

Thanks. My kids are teenagers and older now so I dont have little fingers in the tank. However my nephews toddler is like a moth to a flame, straight to the tank with hands in the water. So for young families a tank on a coffee table is not a good idea.

My SPS are mostly going very well under my kessil. Most show nice growth and some are really colouring up nicely. A few arent though, Im not sure why, but I doubt its the kessil. I run mine at maximum intensity. I dont have a controller so Im not sure what k rating, maybe something around 12000k. I still love this light. It adds no heat so I was able to get through a Melbourne summer without a chiller, just a fan on hot days.

Post 4312 is a good start. I switched to that and I like it so far.

I currently run my 12gal at:

Color/Intensity

9:00am - 0/5
1:00pm - 50/60
3:00pm - 60/70
5:00pm - 50/60
9:00pm - 0/0

I started at about 50% or so intensity and each week raised 5%. Keep in mind my 360 is about 15inches above water.

Just go slow... I'm learning the hard way. I was at 35% intensity 6 inches above water in my 29 bc. I've since raised it to 8.5 inches above water and now only max at 20%. One thing to note is they don't come on until 14%. Color won't make a difference like t5 and MH. The spectrum is correct at any color for the corals. Watch your corals as they will tell you what they like. My flower pot closes up when it hits higher intensity and opens up when it lowers. Every tank is different and where you get the corals may have ran higher or lower intensity. Again take your time. Lower is better and tweak as you need but small percentage per week.

Looks like I am joining the club again. I sold my Kessil 150 Sky Blue because I thought it was too powerful for a 9 gallon cube so I bought a 160 we, I like this model because I can dim it.

I read through some of the threads here with people owning the 160 on small tanks so I decided to buy it today. Thanks

What's the difference between the 160 and the 360 N? They seem like the same thing to me.

Running a combination of 360 and 160 Kessil along with a pair of Photon32 over my 265. Very happy with them.
