Kessil Club

I agree that you need 6 360s for a 6 foot tank. I use 4 over my 4 foot tank for better coverage as well as getting around live rock peaks. Even though they do not look as bright as MH they are intense and you can easily burn corals. Start at a lower intensity and slowly ramp up.

Yeah if not for the center overflow I would need 6 lights. With the overflow the center light is more forward and a little closer to tank than the other two. I went ahead and ordered two more lights, cables and goosenecks at $874 due in tomorrow. I usually buy from a local place with 1 day free ground and a coupon to offset sales tax.

You can always turn the intensity down if need be. Mine hit a max of 75% at mid photoperiod and they are 8-10 inches above the water. Most of the day they run at 15-20% color.

Coupon on a MAP controlled item? Was that a generic store coupon?

Just got my first kessil from a buddy of mine. A150 ocean blue. I'm looking to put it over the new IM fusion 40. Will I need to add another kessil over it? If so if I get the a160 can it be tuned to look like the ocean blue I have or will one side of my tank be more powerful than the other? New to these kessils anything will help. Thanks!

Yes. You can tune color and intensity of the 160. You could also do the same with a 360 and tune it down. That way you have a light that can be used down the road for a larger tank upgrade.

Mounted the two additional lights Friday and looking better. Just really appreciating it today though as water has been a little cloudy the past few days. Looks like I had a little algae bloom likely as a side effect of switching lighting types. I put in three poly socks (I don't always use or sometimes just mesh) and it cleaned up pretty good. Well that and two treatments with CZ coral snow. This tank just past the 8m mark and I also got a little red cyano (first time) after switching lights (and/or maybe the new Gyre pattern)

One interesting note though... when the water was cloudy, despite the light being diffused you can still make out each individual light beam. Still tweaking but made some changes last night and running at 65p/80c at peak ramping up and down from 20p/0c. I'm liking 80c a little better than 90c I was running. I expect I will eventually be running at 80%+ power. Lights come on at 9am and ramp up to 12pm when my halides used to come on. They ramp down 7-9 and sit at 20p/0c until 10. I really enjoy the last few hours when all the actinically active stuff goes on fire.

And yours doing this with the apex.

Yep with Apex. I started with the gold package and the controller already has the VDM module built in. There is a half decent wizard on Apex Fusion but I just manually created my profiles starting with the examples from BRS video on setting up Kessil on Apex. Pretty straight forward and I just started tweaking from there to get it where I wanted it.

That confirms it for me. Next purchase controller.

As of Friday I added two more for a total of 5 Kessil A360WE's and liking the setup a lot better in terms of better coverage/more perceivable light and less shadows. I'm running 2x on the left and right and 1 in center. The picture is w/o flash and the lights are currently at 80 color and 65% power. Still a little cleanup left from adding the two additional lights. I had the wires cleaner the first time..

Why did you change lights again? Heat issues?

Nice Setup.

How many gallons is your tank?

What are the Dimensions?

Very nice tank.

It's immediately apparent it's lit by Kessil. (And then I don't mean the fixtures :-) ) It's crisp in a special way.

Hey guys! First post on here! Just purchased my first Kessil a160 today to go over an IM nuvo 16 gallon and was wondering if that would be enough for a mixed reef or if I would need another one? I have some softies and some Lps in tank now but would like to do sps down the road.

You should be good. Did you get the narrow or the wide?

What would you recomend for a 29 gallon tank thats 30 inches long ? 1 or 2 kessils, I was thinking of putting 1 160 but was concerned with it only covering 24"
