Kessil Club

I am now an official member of the Kessil Club! I have a soft coral only system, and now have two a360w's over my 5' 100 gallon... I am replacing a 4' Current T5 system (WITHOUT individual reflectors). I am doing a 14 day acclimation with the Spectral Controller, and my question is regarding the intensity.

My lighting schedule is as follows: (color/intensity)
9:00 0/5
13:00 50/45
15:00 65/55
17:00 50/45
21:00 0/0

This is completely an experiment. Does that seem to be appropriate? I have the acclimation mode set to begin at 40% intensity. Does anyone have any input on how I could improve my schedule?

Welcome to the club. Schedule looks good to me. Just watch your corals. If they start stretching then raise the intensity slowly until they look normal.

Finally got my lights. I originally purchased one A160we and one A360we to compare. I placed both over my 24x24x14 frag tank temporarily. The A160 was OK, but since my tank is 8'x2'x2' I purchased 4 used A360we's with a blue fish controller from a fellow reefer. I might put the A160we on my frag tank.

The only issue I have with the lights is I was going to mount them with the supplied hanging bolt and drilled through my canopy top. 3 are missing and the guy couldn't find them. Any ideas where to get them?

You could take the light to HD or Lowe's and see if they have the bolts.

I upgraded from 4 a150w to 3 a360we and 1 350N over the new tank. Gotta say i am much happier with these compared to the 150's....which were still worth every penny.

IN any case, i am wondering (having just purchased the 3rd 360we, already running the other 2),

WILL a regular av cable with double male ends work in place of the sync cable everybody is charging 25 bux for.....i mean, we can buy a normal av cables for less than 10 bux.... any body tried it yet

Yep male/male. I also have a long male/female extender so i can sit on my couch with my Kessil Controller (not wireless )

that is genius.......i hate standing against my wall to use my controller....haha. duh!

going to walmart tomorrow. thanks brudda.

Check out monoprice if you want a cable really cheap. It's where I buy all my av stuff. when the controllable kessils first came out I fabed up my own to work with my reef keeper. All of 2 dollars to make it work 😆

So I'm at 65% intensity and 65% color and everything looks great except this one green montipora who had parts that turned white then brown. Should I back down on either color or intensity? When and how often should I then start increasing?

My light is 6.5 inches over the water line. The depth is about 15 inches to sand. I know this is a powerful light but I can't tell if I'm losing color from my SPS bc of the intensity not being strong enough or when I had high nitrates (10) and a small outbreak of cynodbacteria. I dosed iron today as the 2 corals I'm having the biggest issues with are green. Spongodes and Green Slimmer. Both got tan/brown.

I made a few changes in the sump removing rubble rock and adding media basket and skimmer. Skimmer is still breaking in so I figured that was the cause of nitrates to rise.

Main question (sorry off subject) is how do you read your corals to make adjustments to Kessil?

I have it on a ramp program with my apex. 10 hours a day. 6 hours @ 14% 1 hour ramp up and 1 down to 25% and run 2 hours of 25%.

Now my LPS all seem to be good and color is fine except my Mystic Sunset but I think its just level I had it placed.

Anyone running a kessil on a BC 29 and would share their schedule? Thanks!!!

For those of you with sps in your tanks, what is your color and intensity looking like? I have a 12 gallon nano. Highest intensity right now is 70 and color 60. Ramping schedule 9am to 9pm
