Kessil Club

Hey kessil owners who supplement with t5....what kind of fixture do you use to run the t5's? How many bulbs and which bulbs do you use?

I just ordered an aquatic life 2x48" w fixture and am switching out the bulbs with a coral plus and a blue plus to supplement my pair of a350w's. From all the reading i've been doing this seems like the most commonly used t5's to supplement kessils.

I agree. Contemplated it myself.

Just got my kessils in a few days ago. Ordered two of the a360we for my 48" 75g tank. Hoping to keep mostly acros. Are two going to be enough or do I need to order more lights? T5 supplementation?

You should be fine as long as you don't have them on the edges or you're gonna need to add some supplementation.

I am still a newbie, as my tank is only 8 months old. I have a 75g with 4 360we. I don't know if I need them or not. I have one acro and it is growing like mad. So is everything else, with the possible exception of my two gonipora's which, if they are growing its very very slow. My electric green birds nest as exploded, my acan lord also budding off lots of new heads. And of course, what no one tells you when you start (all my zenieas are now a problem, they are growing everywhere and I am now in the business of yanking them out). The pulsing zenias are more or less easy to pinch and yank. The regular zenia is a big fat problem as it tends to encircle and strangle my zoas. Its become a labor of love to go in with forceps and try to untangle the zenia strangler arms from around the zoas than then pull them out. But what is the whole thing if not a labor of love?
The star polyps are a whole different problem as they seem to engulf zoas, I have an ongoing battle between a bunch of vampire zoas which are being overrun by the star polyps expanding base. As near as I can tell the zoas are trying to extend out beyond the engulfing polyp base. Where it was not to late I have now inserted small plexiglass walls to keep the stars from overrunning my purple haze and my pink gonipora etc.

Did not originally imagine there could be a problem of invasive coral attackers! Knowing what I know now, I would never have put any zenias or polyps in the tank to begin with. But maybe I would not have listened to anyone who told me that to much growth would be a problem.?

But back to the main point, Light, I do have a pretty good sized clam going into his 4th week and he seems to be doing fine under the 4x 360we.

So while I can't say that you need 4x 360we on a 75 gallon tank , I can say that my 75 g tank is promoting growth growth and more growth.

Alright, thanks. Easy to get a bit nervous I think with LED lights because they don't seem to look quite as bright as other lighting methods.

I have my controller set to come on 0/5 and the intensity does start at 1 and slowly ramp up. I noticed it because I have it set for 7am and my light turned on at 6:52 and slowly ramped up the intensity until it hit 0/5 at 7am.

I still need to purchase the controller so I actually know what percentages I'm running at instead of a rough guess based on knob position.

Mine is set to come on at 9am but turn on at 8:49am.

Hello all you Kessil owners.

So I have been reading thru this thread and recently I have been contemplating going with T5 supplements over my 75 gallon tank. I am currently running two A360we and just haven’t found a spot where I really like the spectrum or intensity. Hopefully this week I will be ordering a few more things for my tank then plan on trying to go the Acro route. Lots of good information here and was just hoping those that have acro’s under Kessil only lighting could elaborate a little more on their intensity and color settings. Also maybe share a few pictures.

Don’t want to spend the money on a T5 retro kit if I don’t really have to. Can always use that for something else LOL..

Thanks for the great info!

I bought a a360we to try on the right side of my 220 gallon which is 27" deep.I have had it for about a month and started at 40% intensity and now up to 50% for about three hours a day before it ramps down to 45%,so far things are doing great. My light is 12" above water line, not sure if i should lower the light or just keep increasing intensity.taking it very slow before i get two more.shimmer is awesome,it is dimmer then my chinese lights but it looks alot better i think.

What kind of coral are you keeping under your kessil?
