Kikireef's 125 gallon LED Build

cool man, I got monday off too. I'll be doing work and maybe, if all goes well, you can take the tank home then.

After making a trip to Tom's and a fellow reefers, I picked up some new goodies. JBJ auto top off, sock holder, magnetic probe holder, dosing line holder, and my VDM module (thanks Luwe2008) to control the LED's.

The build is sort of going a bit slower now as the stand is nearing completion. I now have to install the new flooring before I go further with the actual tank build. On that note I am going to start ripping out all my baseboards, vinyl flooring in the kitchen and carpet in the rest of the rooms today and tomorrow so I can get going on the travertine soon hopefully. That's it for now....

Tank Arrival

Yesterday I was able to pick up the tank and sump from Fishybeaner. For those of you following his build you know that he just upgraded to a 225 from the tank I got from him. I have to give a big thanks also to Mike (Smalltime) for helping to move this beast as well as my Dad and my brother. Unfortunately the only pics I have of moving it are on my phone and they came out horrible. Here are a few that I have though.

Here is the sump. Needs a good vinegar bath.

My wife and I also had a change in plans. We are going to be going with hardwood floors. They look killer. Before and after pics are coming soon. Then I can finally finish the stand and fill it with water!

Coming along really well Keith. Can't wait to see this project done so I can give you some goodies to throw in it.

It's about time you got your tank! this build thread needed to be updated! you should have slapped the guy for taking so long to give you your tank! lol

kick him where the sun don't shine for not cleaning it out first! making your dad clean it. good meeting you yesterday and build looks awesome!

Well there isn't much to report on the actual tank build but the flooring work has begun. I know that documenting this may not be of interest to some but I thought I would since it is the MAIN reason for breaking down my old tank to set up the new one. First I thought I would show some shots of the house before renovation then more leading up to where I am today. I hope you all enjoy...

Here you can see where the old tank was. Paint is ugly because I had to paint around it.

Bringing it up to today. I have worked my A@# off the last week. I first primered the entire main living area. Then pulled up most of the vinyl flooring so far and nearly all the carpet and padding. What I thought would be an easy job is killing me. Thank god for central air set at 68 degrees!!!

My wife snapped a pic of me removing the glue and stuck on padding. I HATE GLUE!!!

Finally, two pallets (60 boxes) of hardwood in the garage

That brings it up to today. Tomorrow I have to paint the walls of nearly 1000 sq feet. OH BOY!!!

Next Monday the flooring goes in....more pics to come.

Ask and you shall receive. Well work began on Monday. I took off Monday through Sunday from work (thank god I have a ton of vacation time saved up). The flooring is taking a bit longer than I anticipated. I thought it would take 2-3 days and I am on day 4. Probably will finish late tonight or sometime tomorrow afternoon. Immediately after I finish this I am going to be picking up the baseboards and wood for the stand. I will be skinning the stand this Friday-Sunday and doing all of the finish work. In between polyurethane coats I will be doing the baseboards starting where the tank will be so I can get it moved into place asap. Here are some of the flooring pics....I also finished repainting the entire house....

Also some good news. I am picking up 2 of my 3 AI Sol Blue units tomorrow evening. Ca't wait!!! Stay tuned for some more on that. I am planning on building a pretty tricked out lighting canopy. Thats all I can say for now...

Nice man! looking good! Hey if you are gonna be running the fuge in the sump i sugest that you get a piece of black acrylic so it doesn't grow algae in your return area...I should have done that when I set it up but I had very little time to build that set up =/

I considered that. Would you recommend just setting it in there against the current baffle or attaching it with weld on?

The flooring looks real nice Keith.

Thanks Cody. Finally all the flooring is done.

Looking great! Can't wait to see the progress.

Thanks.

Some more updates. I got in two new toys. Thanks Greg (gcarrol)for the killer deal!!!

I also did some work on the stand yesterday and today. Unfortunately I don't have many clamps so assembling the skin is taking a bit longer than anticipated....story of my life with this build.

That is it for now. The last picture has the front and the left side assembled once the wood glue dries I can do the right side. Maybe this evening. Then the staining and finishing will begin. I hope to have it in place within the next week and a half.

Besides my original plan of 4 guys and pure brute strength I was considering renting a furniture dolly from uhaul or something to help get it up the stairs. This stand weighs literally more than the tank. Does anybody know if there is a dolly specifically designed for moving large items up stairs and if so where could I rent/borrow one? It would be VERY helpful.

Keith
