Okay, time for an update. Things have been moving along slower than expected as work has been really busy. The tank is slowly filling up:
I just started circulating and heating what is in there so far.
The fish room is all painted and ready to start filling up with equipment:
I also had an idea about how to put baffles in the rubbermaid stock tank. I am going to make a center overflow with a bulkhead on the side that goes out the tanks bulkhead. I can put some baffles up around the top to keep bubbles from getting in. I think this will work. I'll let you know!
You may want to reconsider the in-wall option as it can really open up the room in front of the aquarium . But either way it looks like it will be a sweet setup !!!
Kim, there is a 100 gallon acrylic sump for sale on Craigslist right now. It is listed with a 180 gallon tank. You might be able to talk the seller into just letting you have the sump. Search CL for "180 gallon Reef Ready Oceanic". It was posted today at 11:39.
we have a 110g acrylic tank that we bought to use as a sump. It is out in the backyard. We had a FS thread a while back but no takers. I was even going to through in another smaller sump that we built to use for a remote DSB (it is 20"W X 14"T X 3'L.. or something along those lines... good for having fast moving water over a deep sand bed using a spray bar on one end and a strainer on the other for the drain). $90 and they are both yours if you are interested. If not then I think that your rubbermaid stock tank will work just fine
Okay, finally some updates. The first thing I worked on was the 100 gallon rubber maid sump. I had to switch out the stock bulkhead for a good one. I removed the bulkhead and had to cut off the 2 surrounds of the old bulkhead for the new one to fit. I didn't get any pics during the work, but here it is done.
Then I plumbed the tank to the sump.
What a mess. I will get it all cleaned up soon (I hope )
I haven't hook up the refugium yet. I will probably go with my 55, but I am still looking for other options.
Yesterday was the big move from the 240 in Davis to the 360 in Sac. It went pretty well. We were able to remove all the fish except 1 neon goby that I haven't found. Hoping he was in a rock. Moved all the rock (I will have leftovers) and got all the sand out. It was an exhausting day!
This is not aquascaped at all. We just put the rock in and I will rearrange today or soon.
No lights
turned on the solaris (these will be hung later)
no lights, with flash
octopus frogspawn in tank (no room for it in frag tank)
skimmer (not hooked up yet)
I can not believe how happy my fish are. They seem to really love the wavebox flow.
I forgot the most important part of my build thread. To thank those people who helped me move yesterday! Michael, Kenny & Kevin (& Emma). Thanks everyone. I appreciated the help so much! We will have a major frag party to help reimburse you for all your help. And if you ever need any help just ask!
looks great, kim! wish you were still in davis so i could come hang out in front of this awesome tank . your fish look like they know they hit the jackpot!
