Kole Tang...My first DD purchase.

Mine will only take nori from the water column and not from a clip, pvc, or rock yet. I also just did my first water change in the QT tank. He did not like that one bit.

I finally caught him picking at the Nori on the PVC pipe. He will take a few tugs, play with his reflection, and swim back tack a few more tugs. How long can I leave the Nori in the tank? It has been in there for a few hours now.

Also, how often should I try to clean out the media in the AQ70 filter. I know small bits of food are getting sucked up in there.

i'm gonna wait to see if somebody answers the question about how long. this guy finished off a piece that was a square inch (doubled over and rubber banded to a rock) in less than an hour. i do see a lot floating around in the tank but he seems to come out and grab a piece. i just put another piece on the rock and he's really going after it!

i tested the qt this morning and ammonia/trites/trates are all zero so i'm gonna hold off on a water change till later in the weekend. i don't have any filters in this tank, just some filter floss to catch junk. i replace it every day.

holy cow, he's eating like a PIG!!

LOL, it ain't gonna last that long with this fish!! thanks for the info. :)

Ha...I put about 20 square inches in there . Enough that a 3" wide piece wrapped around a piece of 1" PVC nearly twice. The good news is he is still grazing on it. Hopefully he keeps up the good work and this guy is going to be a fatty by the time he gets in the DT.

i assume that if you end up taking it out, you could just put it on a counter overnight and put it back in tomorrow. right?

yer gonna be looking for fish weight watchers!

I will probably just throw it out and put another smaller piece in tomorrow. I was reading that someone else suggested while they are in the QT putting a new large piece in at lights on everyday and removing it at lights off everyday. The thought is that they are use to grazing all day and with the QT being a relatively sterile algae free environment this will allow them to eat little by little all day like they would in the DT or wild.

makes perfect sense. i think i'll follow your lead. :)

i noticed today that all of the algae that was on the glass and on the little plastic temperature strip is history. i have a couple of pieces of lr in my sump with some algae so i'll change those out once in a while. obviously, i won't be able to put them back in the sump so i'll just leave them in the qt.

another crappy cell phone video...

he's out pretty much ALL the time now and is learning to suck mysis or brine from the end of a syringe. :)

Oh wow, that is awesome. Mine is definitely still too shy to do that. I wish I would have set my QT tank up somewhere with more traffic so he could be getting used to people walking around the tank.

yeah, i think it helps to have at least some activity around the qt. mine is in a corner of the kitchen right next to my bedroom door/master bathroom so between me and the 2 danes (because they don't think i can pee w/o company), this fish sees a LOT of traffic! LOL

Kole tanks are awesome fish and always seem happy , one of my favorites , good luck and thanks for sharing ! Beautiful specimen!

thanks, bill!

ellis, this guy seems more interested in mysis/brine than he does in nori. go figure! maybe he just likes eating from the syringe? sorry bud, i can't feel ya nori from a syringe!

My guy has still not taken to eating frozen meats, but has been mowing down the Nori. Can he survive on Nori alone or is it imperative that I get him eating frozen mysis or brine in QT? I am hoping once he gets in the DT and sees everyone else chowing down he will get the hint.

well, since they are herbivores, i would think he'll be fine with just nori since he will only be in qt for a while. there will surely be other stuff to peck at when he gets to your dt and eventually, he will take to mysis/brine, etc. i put a tiny bit of rod's food in for him yesterday. he grabbed it, spit it out and looked at me as if to say "gimme the GOOD stuff!" LOL

he has such a big mouth that he can completely cover the end of the syringe with it. so funny to watch him!
