Yet I have heard of plenty of tunze failures on various posts / forums as well as maxis and other models. See for every 5,000 perfectly working pumps of a certain model, the handful of owners that have a problem usually turn to the internet and scream and cry about his or her issue saying what crap the product is or it is junk blah blah.
Usually that person does not say he bought the pumps used, or that he doses a bucket of kalk a day, or that he has so much hair algea that the pumps clog all the time, or that he has never cleaned the pumps since purchase hahaha.
Now if a person has 3 out of 8 fail... that needs to be looked into big time as I have never heard of a pump failure rate that high. I would love to know what else is going on that is helping those failures along. Hardware is hardware, nothing more nothing less. Some is good & some is crap. I just go with what is cheap and I have good luck with, and I have had flawless luck with cheap koralias even when modified.
Now I can count at least 20 koralia users off the top of my head locally. I have heard of a single sort of "failure" when discussing this out of around 50+ koralias in use. 3 of which are in my tank(s) The failure was figured out as build up on the shaft seized the impeller. Of course the owner came on kicking and screaming it was a junk product but failed to mention it had not been cleaned in 8 months haha. She is a nice lady so we were happy to help

A good cleaning of the shaft & inside the impeller fixed it without issue. So again a person with a failure rate of 3 out of 8 in a short time frame has to have another factor involved or another motive to diss a product as I personally just do not see anywhere near that kind of failure rate on a koralia. Just my experience.
I was only aware of a recall on the k4's not the 2's or 3's *LOL* Anyways Hydor has pretty good customer service, just call them if they are out of warranty and they may still do something for you. Never hurts to ask, just explain your situations.
