Koralia failure rate?

Ive had 3 koralia#2 for 11 months, no problems with restarts or stray voltage. I did just break the magnetic holder off of one tonight when I was opening it to clean it.

I am in the process of upgrading to a 220 gal so I am giving serious thoughts to two K8's rather then a closed loop system.
If you check with the other thread I linked to above --it is starting to get into a good evaluation of them.

Yeah I checked out that link you provided and they seem to be getting good reviews so far.

Man now I am tempted...I promised myself I would stay away from Koralia's but the price is just so good and so is the product when it does work. Hopefully with the new line, they are a bit more reliable.

I wonder too if there have been bad "batches" of them since it seems they either fail quickly or last a long time without issue. I bought all of mine from the same store within about 4-6 months time. Maybe the supplier of the store I frequent had a bad batch or something.

I lost a korlia 1 a couple months ago and it was only a month old. I went to the store and he gave me a new one.

my supplier guarantees them for one year.

I have a 4 and it has leaked voltage right out of the box and it now stops working every week or so and requires unplugging and plugging back in to get to start.the voltage issue i do not like at all.i do remember reading a while back that it causes lateral line desease and other health problems in fish.Possible an article delbeck wrote or some other highly respected author.i am sure the corals dont like it either being they are very sensitive animals.I now use mine to mix a water change barrel.I will not use them in any tanks i have that contain animals

Have had mine for about 6 months or so (I use one but also have a back up Koralia #3) with no problems. I have it running 24/7 and I just stuck my finger in the tank where it is located and no shocking goodness going on... always a plus. TBH With my tank being fairly small price isn't a big factor in my decisions.. I just saw a lot of people liking them plus their suction/magnet method is fantastic.

I use two Koralias #4, they dont last! They are cheaply made
Ive been through two of them in less than a year. One died for no apparent reason after three months, i just looked at it and it was dead. Then another one died after six months when the power went out for a few minutes, it never started back up.
I just keep replacing them because I do like them the best and they are alot cheaper than some other brands out there.
I never got a schock though
Werent Koralia's recalled last year because of leaking currents?? I know they had some electrical issuse with it
So maybe you got old stock that your LFS didnt bother to take off the shelves?

Yeah I know, and I thought about it, but either way I had to run out that day and get a replacement.

I have 7 koralias, a nano, a 1, 3 3's, and 2 4's, and I love every last one of them. One of my threes stopped for a day, but that was because the prop was bound with hair algae. I got my first three well over a year ago, and I've been accumulating more since then. They all work great, and I can't say I've ever had any experience w/ current leaking into the water. However, I wouldn't think that would affect fish all that much as fish have no ground. How many times do you think fish are around in nature for lighting to strike the water in their lifetimes? That's certainly higher voltage than the lousy 110-220 we've got flowing through our circuits.
Also, I've heard of coral propagation outfits that utilize a small electron flow through rods to accumulate Ca++ ions for corals to build their skeletons. Snails, I could see a problem with, as they have very permeable skin and are perpetually grounded.
Bottom line: Koralias are the best pump in their price range (and, IMO, even better than some more expensive ones), and while there may be some problems, every product has its defects, and you've got to take the good with the bad.

Only read the first page, but the older (really not that old) ones 3 and 4 were really prone to shock. The boxes that read NEW on them are the improved ones and I haven't had that problem after I switched over to the new. Email and complain honestly. You may have to pay shipping, but your tank and wallet will be happy you did.

I have 4 #3's and haven't had a problem. Had them for 6 months now. FWIW the boxes do have "new" on them.

I had a K2 and it did not leak voltage, but I did notice that it got gunked up with hair algae real fast. My maximods and Tunze do not get this....why?

I just got my Vortech MP40. I will add it to the tank on 10/16/08)day after my Bday). I will not need to worry about the voltage..................

IMO it is a combination of flow around the outside, light and available nutrients being sucked in the pump too. Mine do the same thing plus my overflows develop alaga on the inside layer just below the teeth where the water is running over quite fast.

People do know I hope that Hydor had a recall on the early k4's for voltage leaks. A lot of people purchase used k4's that were part of the recall and then cry when they fail for good reason as they will light you up when you reach in the tank :)

I have owned the following

3 K1's for approx 1.5 years. Basically since they invented them. Never a single issue. Sold 2 of them which are still rocking on tanks, the oldest one is in my display fuge still rocking away as well!

2 k4's for almost 5 months, 0 issues even running the black sure flow props kicking out some insane water.

Had to edit this post as I forgot I still have my oldest k1 in my fuge *LOL* Talk about set and forget... Man am I overdue for a cleaning on that baby!

I'm pretty sure K4's were not included in the recall only 2's and 3's. Besides one of my K4's that was leaking is one that was a replacement sent by hydor for another one that just completely died.

I'm going to mail back all my defective ones monday and once the replacements come I'll be selling them as new. Not worth taking the chance to save a couple of bucks. If you buy 2-3 less corals you can buy a tunze and not worry.
