kudoras 84 gallon thread

july update extended:

i bought the lights from reefgeek, but before installing them i had to raise the canopy several inches so the lights sit 4" from the water.

Pics!!

as you can see i extended the top by using some finished oak i had taken off a cabinet earlier this year. make a quick end around that left enough room for both ballasts to fit behind the canopy but out of the way. it also leaves a small lip were the wires will be out of any direct splashing(fish jumping or something lol)

yup i have aiptasia
thats why i bought the joes juice(on my list on the first july update)
i nuked it with some tropic marin eli aiptasia instead of the joes juice more updates on this subject later

after nuking the aiptasia i found another one on my heater so it was taken out and scraped off. i think they came with the cheato, so i got some mini bristle stars and aiptasia as hitchhikers.

thx capn

by the end of the month the bubble coral just wast not accepting food or sending tenticals out :( it only looked great for a couple of weeks then went down hill from there and just didnt make. its my first coral lost :(

i swaped out my old powerheads for a couple of K3s, they are doing an ok job but with the tanks length i am afraid i will need some more flow in the tank. its around this time i decided not to add any fish or corals untill i got my parameters in check. All of the items i bought over the next 2 months was to improve the quality of life(water) i could provide.

next update: cleanup crew boost!!!

were you trying to target feed it?

yes, clams, squid, silversides, shrimp, brine, mysis, you name it i tried it. i would only eat a bit if at all, i used the 20 oz bottle trick. it just wasted away, it was kinda sad.

edit: i even used a 1 liter just incase the 20oz was too small

Nice... get yourself a modded MJ 1200 or two. I am very happy with the two I added to my tank. Also, they run great on the wavemaker after I swapped out the used mod for a new one. All the SPS seem to really enjoy the boosted flow, and I've noticed an increase in the encrusting growth at the bottom of most of them. Especially on the Milli's.

Keep the updates coming. :)

12 hours for attinics and 10 hours for halides

10 am-11am attinics
11 am- 9 halides and attinics
9-10pm attinics

i raised it to 11 hour attinics and 7.5 of all four bulbs last month and saw a good amount of growth in all my corals, going to bump it up a bit more today tho.

I do 12 hours of Actinics, wait one hour and start my 10 hour cycle of all bulbs. I have T5's, though.

yup so do i, i am trying not to increase it to much at a time, after lunch i increased it to 1.5 hours of attinics, 8 hours of all the bulbs and 1.5 hours of attinics.

I had two peppermint shrimp in my DT, they never harmed a single coral and I never had an aiptasia problem. Then the slowly died over a period of a few months. Really don't know what the problem was, but the LFS I got them from was kind of shady.

They were good shrimp, though.

i got a call today from a guy who needs to get rid of his shrimp so i am going to go see what kind it is, if its not pep shrimps i will pick some up at the lfs tomorrow.
