L.A. in wall 800 gallon system!

Fantastic job you have done on your tank. It is truly very inspirational. Cant wait for it to mature and see the small colonies grow out.

Hello George,

Do your self a fav and go to Reef Frontiers and look at Billwann's 20,000 gallon build thread. He is a master craftsman and builds some killer skimmers and calk. reactors and does nothing but high quality and know's his stuff. I think you will be glad you did:)

Your build is truly a work of art!!!

George Ask Reefski if he still have his.

For your query about Calcium Reactors... Size doesn't really matter. An efficient design will produce adequate calcium. The size only effects how often you have to open it and add more.

For super efficiency with a small footprint look for a fluidized design.

After trying to get a hold of reefski (thanks for the tip Lawrence) I was not able to get a hold of him unfortunately...I started researching who makes good/large calcium reactors. I was really impressed by GEO Reef and his 1218 calcium reactor which is a beast of a reactor! :deadhorse1: It might be overkill but I want to set it and forget it...lol. Also with the amount of SPS I'm shooting for I will need every drop of calcium I can get. :fun4:

I've been hearing glowing reviews from everyone here on Reef Central about George Weber and his build quality when it comes to his work so I'm glad I choose this reactor the chamber is 12"wide x 18"tall and holds over 50lbs of media!

Wow George, the video you posted was AMAZING!! I showed it to all of my friends and they were also soooo impressed! I keep watching it over and over! What is the next step with your tank???

 thanks...and please feel free to show the video to anyone you like .

Here are a few Next steps I've got going on these days...

1) I've ordered recently a 1218 GEO Reactor from GEO Reef and I'm just waiting for it to come in.

2) I've also ordered a 818 GEO Kalk Reactor from GEO Reef waiting for that as well.

3) I'm ordering an ASM 160 watt UV sterilizer to take care of ICH and some cloudiness in the water column.

4) I've ordered a 1hp 220 industrial chiller by Tradewinds (to replace my 1/2 hp 110 that I'm running now which seems to be on all the time)

5) I want to order a larger sump of a size of approximately 60"x48"x18" 225 gallons

6) I'm working on a dedicated refugium where I can have mud/DSB and grow cheato.

7) Need to get a Auto Top of tank running (I'm manually adding every couple of days right now and that can't last forever! LoL)

Thanks for asking...As you can tell my tank keeps my busy and broke!

George
Reef tank to do list will never ends and congratulation on the future Frags ( it's as expensive as this hobby!lol)

Got my dedicated 60 gallon refugium with deep sand bed, mineral mud, and chato.

i'm using a simple reflectors with a 10k yellow LED bulbs...seems like its working well! Its better that the chato takes up the phosphates instead of nuisance algae.

Have you ever checked out Indo-Pacific Sea Farms, they have different macro algaes in there, some that even provide you with food for your tangs. I have heard pretty good things about them from the a few people that have used them.

George,

Nice build! It's great being the construction kingpin when you're doing something along the lines of what you've got here. I have a few comments and questions

-I completely second what BigOldReef has to say. Fluid reactors are fantastic. I have a Deltec 601S. I have a 400 gallon tank, and this more than does the job, but with a bigger tank, I would consider their larger model. *Although I'm not 100% satisfied with the reactor (they put a POS pump on it), there are other choices*. As with any reactor you need to ensure that they are actually working. If you don't pay attention to your C02 bottle, your effluent Alk and or your inter chamber pH, you will never have a consistent chemistry situation in a large tank like that.

-I would also strongly suggest that you run Ozone with a controller to measure the ORP parameters.

-Do yourself a huge favor, please dip and or QT your new corals. You DO NOT want to end up with montipora eating nudi's or Acropora eating flat worms. In a system that large, getting rid of them is impossible and it will create a daily maintenance program, while you will never be able to get ahead of the the nudibranchs.

I am setting up a 10/4/3 foot tank in the next year and I've started to brainstorm.

At this point in time, what do you think of your closed loop. I am not certain if I am going to use a CL vs a CSD. How effective is the flow.

Where did you get your Vat for your saltwater?

How is the fan controlling the humidity? What is the noise rating for it? Would you recommend it? Do you measure your humidity and if so, what is it in the fish room?

What are you doing with that crazy rubbermaid container with all of those valves. Why do you need so many feeds into it.

Thanks! Great set up.

Hello Servo,

Thanks for all of your amazing knowledge but I have already purchased my large Calcium Reactor and I believe it is more cost effective with such a large volume of water to do it that way....but I will probably use a dosing method for other things I need to add such as Magnesium.

I love the closed loop system when it comes to flow...can't beat it in my opinion...I see that there is very few spots that don't get good flow! Only major draw back is that they are energy hogs and take alot of wattage 24hrs a day!

I keep debating weather in the future I should use mp 40s or mp 60s and get rid of the closed loop system but I believe that they cause alot of noise...and I have a three sided tank so I only have one wall to place the mp motors...that's why this closed loop works well for me.

I will look up where I bought my VAT from but essentially Julian from Aquarium city got it for me from a general farm supply.

I will also look up the info about the fan...I believe in the earlier pages of the thread it goes over that.

All the pipes are going in and out of the VAT are because I have it doing multiple functions. First It is part of the water volume of the tank, second I have it connected the sewer line of the home so I can turn a valve and dump up to 200 gallons for a water change, third I have it plumbed to my 130 gallon quarantine system so that when I want to remove water from my quarantine for a water change I can replenish it with water from my main tank so that I don't need to pay for separate water for the QT tank, next I use the VAT to mix the new salt with RO DI water!

Here are some updated photos from yesterday of the whole tank...I took a picture from each of the viewing panels!

Here is a picture of my new Lime Green Carpet Anemone...he is beautiful! I've had my blue carpet for two years now and is my favorite thing in the tank (he is a beast thou...I've lost my good fish to this guy) A sacrifice to the fish Gods LoL.
