Laing Pumps

Anyone ever use them? I have used Dolphin SSS/Poseidon T3 or T4 for years, but they are no longer sold as such. The Laing pumps seem to be the same thing, and other threads here seem to confirm that Poseidon is just rebranded version of them.

I have found them on a few sites, e.g., http://www.pool-spa-supplies.com/laing-circulation-pump-sm-909-nhw-26-3-4-230v. One site specifically refers to use for aquariums, and mentions saltwater. Another site if I recall specifically mentioned replacement for Poseidon T4. I haven't sorted out what's what on the linked-to site, but THINK these are the right things to be looking at.

Any input?

Thanks.

Hi Kengar,

Laing was a german brandet company with a new, patentet ballpump-Design. Any years ago, Laing was sold to ITT-Lowara, a US-Company.

This pumps are not saltwater resistence and not made for saltwaterapplications... the problem is the stainless steel covered rotor....

This pumps are very, very silent in operation....

Hope it helps...

Hi Klaus,

When you say "This pumps are not saltwater resistant," were you referring to just the pumps shown on the page I linked to? If so, as noted in my post, it was only some of the Laing pumps where I saw reference to saltwater use, and I'm not sure if the ones on the linked-to page were identified as such. Here, for example, is one that is identified as being ok to use with saltwater: http://www.pool-spa-supplies.com/laing-circulation-pump-sm-909-nhw-18-3-4-115v

Or, were you saying ALL Laing pumps are not safe? If so, I'm confused, since the one you provided link for appears to be a Laing pump, too (and also appears to have the same impeller configuration as the old Poseidon pumps I had).

Can you clarify? Thanks!

Ken

I was just pulling that one up to show an example of a listing that refers to saltwater use. That was in the context of seeking clarification from Klaus re his response.

Too bad they're not still available specifically marketed to the saltwater aquarium market, which would eliminate the guessing/uncertainty trying to find one that is appropriate. I never found heat to be an issue running open-topped, with halides. Great pumps! Loved them!

I use to test their small pumps for computer usage in overclocking.

They make a nice product. My 2 Laing PC pumps have been running decades now
