Learning/rebuilding from my epic fail

Wow.. looks like a minimum of 10 hours full 100% blasting lights.

I know I am definitely lack in my lighting - in hours.
total full power leds is about 8 hours - 240 watts
4 x 54 watts - 8 hours - 216 watts.
Sounds like 10 hours to get some pumping growth. :deadhorse:
I don't think you can compare lighting like that, really.. Especially LEDs with mh/t5..
Generally, I have found that for mh/t5, that the 'blasting' time should be shorter but usually people have more light than I do for sps (or stronger light)
I am going 10 hours because I only use 150w mh and my t5 are really a bit of a ghetto set up. I have two pairs of t5 (c+b+) under a single wide reflector so I know I'm not getting optimal light from them.
Maybe, once I'm done experimenting with additives and nutrient levels, I will try reducing the mh by a couple of hours and see what happens....
As for leds, I can't give any sort of real advice as I just don't have enough experience with using them.
You should keep an eye (I think you have) on mike's 200g thread for led advice. Or dtum's tank.. Or wazzel's.. There are plenty of nice led driven tanks.. Even your tank is doing great! I wouldn't play with lights too much.. Leds are so easily tweaked and each time you play with them, the corals have to readjust..

corals amazing as always.... BUT the picture i love the most:

thanks for sharing!!

Hey Flo, thanks! Isnt that the absolute cutest yin/yang symbol you've ever seen??

We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news..
The breeder (Jean Beliveau) had 3 males and 3 female.
Here are the males:
The one we chose is facing the camera.

My wife wanted a male because she feels that they (once neutered) are more calm and friendly as adults.
We chose this little guy with the white spot:

We pick him up mid August!
Awwwwwwww! Congrats Matt!

:) thanks, Matt.
We're gonna start our goldendoodle adventure very soon.
The kids are crossing the days off the calendar.

Trust me, I was tempted.. But it's a serious amount of work, two 8 week old puppies.. Not to mention down the road... I can only imagine how hard it must be to train two dogs at the same time....
Two daughters, one dog.. That's enough.. My wife would never hear of it, anyways!

Tank and corals are looking great! I hear you on just getting one puppy. I have no kids and a just turned 2 year old chocolate lab. He's a handful all by himself. In fact, I'm in the process of re-landscaping my backyard because during one of his phases, decided to mow down pretty much all of my shrubs and flowers. Even after all that, I can't imagine not having him around. Anyway, back to your reef. In case I missed it, where do you buy most of your corals from (online, LFS)? Look forward to updates

Congrats on your golden doodle pup!
We recently adopted a small male this spring and he has been a joyful addition to our family.
They are great dogs.

Here is a pic of our Bentley when he was a pup...

..and now at 6 months...

Have fun and enjoy :)

Hey Dan, that's a crazy household full animals you have!
And the dogs are cute, too! :)
(Don't tell the wife I said that!)

Teebone, your doodle is ridiculously cute! I have no doubt we will enjoy ours, thanks. Two weeks until we bring our pup home.. Looking forward to it..
Looks like a beautiful cottage you have, also.

Hey Todd, thanks. My last dog didn't need to re landscape but before we started crating her, we came home one night to our bed, pillows and sheets torn to bits and spread all over the room..
That was the last time she had the run of the house when we weren't there.
I still miss her, 2 and a half years after she passed away.
I buy a lot of my frags from one lfs: Raging reef and a few from another lfs called Reef Solution. But Raging Reef really gets the nicest and most unique stuff around the city of Montreal.
I also buy online mainly from Fragbox and I have done one purchase from coralfarms. ca as well. Coralfarms has a smaller inventory which doesn't change much and the corals are quite expensive but many of them are named corals. Coral health is very good but the photos on the website are a bit over the top.
Fragbox is great to deal with. March has been very good to me over the past couple of years..
I also acquired a group of corals from a friend getting out of the hobby temporarily (but it seems maybe permanently..)

So, it has been a perfect storm of craziness over the past little while but as of tonight, having arrived in Maine, I am on vacation! :)
Last weekend, both my daughters were in the same soccer tournament and then on Sunday, my niece arrived from Toronto to stay with us for a week and my brother and his family from Columbus, Ohio arrived for the week. Also, knowing I was going on vacation, I was trying to square away I'll the lose ends at work.. Just no time at all for RC.
I did manage to get a few new shots this morning under blue + mostly and and a few with a couple coral + on as well.. They came out a bit over tweaked but anyways..
Here goes a little coral porn.. :)
Fts blue + and some blue LEDs

And here's a fish eye top down fts:

I'll start with that.. Gotta go to bed..
Got some catching up to do this week.. And gotta post more porn! :)

WOWEE Matt!! :inlove:

Acro city is a totally understatement! It's like a bloody acro-universe in there!!  You are truly one of the best mate and I don't know how you could possibly fit any more in there :lolspin:

Love these fish eye top downs you take [emoji106]
Thanks! I have a few more.. (Of course I do..)

It is getting a bit tight in there, Dom, I'll admit! I'm pretty sure I've exhausted every possible location.. Maybe a spot here and there in a back corner but yeah, I'm not really buying much new, these days.. Instill have a few corals I haven't photographed yet though.
WOW MATT!!

amazing pictures!!

thanks for sharing!!
Thanks, Flo!
Here are a few more top top downs:
Right hand side:

Back right. A little glare from the viewing box. The fish eye doesn't sit flush on the bottom of the viewing box so it's tough to stop the glare..

Middle left- could be my favorite shot..

Baaaaack left corner:

Left side further forward:

wow! Just awesome. This is what I am striving for.

I see a Resurrection chalice down in the bottom of the last pic. I am amazed that this thing can take a lot of light. Mine gets 300 par and I can not control the growth. It thinks it is an acro. It attacks the corals around it constantly.
