Tank equipment vid.

Tank equipment vid.

So I have had a few requests for a video about my tank equipment. So here is a video of my set up. It was on the fly, and watching it back, I realize I was rambling a bit. I think you get the idea though. Thanks.

Another really excellent video! I don't think you were rambling at all. I think you really know your system and were able to describe its functioning quite coherently. Great job!

Thank you Dave. I'm glad to hear that. ;) Thanks for following along.

Sweet video I always enjoy the behind the curtain information. I like your water change idea seems too easy...

Thanks much. I'm a sucker for the inner workings as well.

The drain was actually an idea from the fish store I bought my tank from (Neptune aquatics). I was very resistent at first as I just saw it as a possible failure point. However it is rock solid and I am stoked it's there now. It really is too easy. :bounce3:

Finally took some time to make a new video of the tank. Things are growing like crazy, and I am so pleased. I have added several new things including the beautiful Desjardin Sailfin Tang that is hamming it up in the video. I have been so busy lately, I haven't updated much, but I hope you like the new vid. Thanks.

Just discovered your thread and went through it from page 1.....beautiful transformation....I like what you did with the canopy and how you incorporated those shields around the kessils.....it's nice to see the growth and development of your tank.
I have a 215 gal tank (total system volume of approx 300 gals (120 gal sump approx half filled, 40 gal refugium w/algae turf scrubber and 20 gal frag tank). My lighting WAS until recently all LED...3 x 180watt Reef Tech Marine fixtures each comprised of; 24 cree XPG cool white running @ 40%, 24 cree XPE royal blue running @ 85% and 12 cree XPE blue running @80%...these lights were purchased in 2011 and have all the bells and whistles (most no longer used....moving clouds, lightning, sunrise/sunset etc) but compared to current LED fixtures became quickly antiquated. I found them lacking in the color spectrum...and as such I felt my corals did not exhibit profound growth. I recently added 4 80 watt T5's to the mix...2 different Geisman full spectrum bulbs, an ATI true actinic 03 bulb and an ATI purple plus....I am hoping that these will round out the spectrum and effectuate a positive change in my coral growth. Time will tell.
Your tank is doing very nicely......continued success!!

Thanks Frank, sorry the LED's didn't work out for ya. SPS are SO picky about many factors. I hope the T5's fix the issue. I was looking at your in wall build. Pretty neat. ;) Good luck.
Kris.

Kris - What a beautiful tank. Thank you for the thorough updates on the health of your corals and before and after pics. I find that lacking in most build threads where its just focused on the build and a few updates. I've used this thread as inspiration on my current 300g build and chose to go with 6 a360ws because of your success!

Can you post a side by side of the corals before the light switch and now? Kinda like you did early in thread? I think this thread is very helpful for many people to dispel the myth that LEDs are simply bad for SPS long term.

Thank you again!

Zalick, thank you very much. My life is a but crazy at the moment, so it will be awhile before I can post more pics. I will see what I can find, however before and after pics with different lights will not show much. The kessils have been on for two years now, so the corals have mostly been grown under them. Thanks for checking out the tank.

Kris.

I've seen this tank in person on more than one occasion. It definitely qualifies as a TOTM. It is extremely clean and we'll maintained.

Thanks Neuro!! Very cool of you to say. I look forward to seeing your tank again sometime as well. Always a favorite.

After reading over the threads I'm still a little unsure of using 2 A360WE on my new 36x30x20 tank. I really want to get into high quality SPS corals.. Hmmm.. I also have thought about a 8 bulb 39w ATI dimmable unit...

Beautiful tank Kris, good job!

Have you had any issues with the ecoxotics? Seemed to me many people were having issues with dead emitters

Love the tank! I'm planning an 84" tank as well - you don't see many of those, so this is awesome. Was also hoping to do a Leemar, but that was derailed last week after they stopped making tanks.

Congrats on the the tank - it really is beautiful!
