LeeMar starfire 290 mixed reef build

New light canopy....

New light canopy....

Made some good progress on the light Canopy this week. I am very happy with how it turned out considering I am NOT a carpenter. ;) Gonna have to sit in the garage another week until I get back from a wedding. :(

Anyway, thought I would share a couple pics.

More on the Canopy....

More on the Canopy....

Holy Mama! I am TIRED!!!

Got a hair up my A%& today and decided I needed to FINISH the canopy. Started around 11 am and At 0110 this morning (14 hours later) It is hung and it's freakin AWESOME!

By no means is it actually done, however it is hanging over the tank with functioning lights. So..........it's pretty much there. Minor tweaks and such to do.

Anyway, I'm going to bed, but wanted to get some pics up cause I'm EXCITED!

Stain job isn't great, but it's the second thing I have ever stained, and it matches pretty good to the stand, so I am happy with it.

Got creative with how to hang the Kessils with as little verticle height as possible so I can raise the canopy to the ceiling.

Under the hood.....

This is with only the Ecoxotic fixtures (145 watts total). I'm impressed with the coverage. I will post more about these lights and how they are working with the kessils later. Overall though...........I like them a lot.

Like what you did with those Kessils. Been toying with replacing my MH's with the same. Waiting for them to come out with a dimmable version this year.

What are the colors on the ecoxotic fixtures? Job well done on the canopy and those Kessils are looking goooooooooood.

Thank you very much......I LOVE my kessils!

The Ecoxotics are a mix of 12000K white (although they look a little more 9000K ish) and 445nm blue. They are on two channels as well with a remote, so I can have only the blue on at night and in the morning. :) This is why I bought them.

Kessil came out with a controllable version the Kessil "A360." You will not be dissapointed if you switch. I still get fantastic growth and color with these. Very quiet and NO heat! Woo Hoo!

Isn't the dimmable version avail now? Killer tank man. Love my Lee Mars. Nice job on that canopy as well

Yup, the A360 is out. Thanks very much, I love the Lee Mar's as well. ;)

Thanks to EVERYONE for the nice responses. That was a lot of work, so I am glad people like it.

Kris...congrats to you! That light rack is bad a$$ and the tank is coming along well too!

Any concerns regarding the metal you are using to hold the lights in place rusting overtime?

Yup, I am sure over time it is possible there could be rust. However they are very easy to replace as it is just one screw holding them in place, so if needed, I will swap em out. I will also coat them with something if that happens to prevent future issues. I don't think it will be a problem though. Only time will tell. ;)

Pulley's!

Pulley's!

So annoyed that I have been working the last few nights. Dying to get to spend an evening with the new lighting set up. :(

I have been doing little projects before work though and wanted to show off the pulley system I am using on this. I upgraded the 150lb rated cord that I started with...........it felt SO SMALL. Now I am using "Prusik" line........or basically thin climbing rope rated at 3100lb load and made as a safety line when climbing or rappelling. Anyway, it's 6mm and much easier to hold on to. I also think it looks a little more proportionate to the system.

Here are some pics, you can decide for yourself. ;) Still not perfectly level, but that is going to take an hour or two of tiny adjustments and patience on my part.

Pretty simple "Loop on a byte" tie off. Just pull it down to the correct hook. I will have 3 hooks..........one at the set lighting level, one all the way to the ceiling and one hovering above the tank for maintenance.

This shows the stain a bit better. I am very happy that it is close. I don't think anyone would notice a difference unless they were looking for that specifically. That makes me HAPPY!

The overall light spread at the new height is amazing, and I can't wait to get pics at night without glare. More to come. ;)

Thanks everyone.

Got the tank on the stand today, and it went SO smooth. It was kind eary......waiting for something to go wrong! LOL! It was a piece of cake.

Rented a 1000 lb rated Genie lift and we were able to get it 40" up and level with the stand. Then just slid it right accross. Made is seem light.

Was a really great day, and rewarded by getting to sit on the couch and STARE at this beauty! Plumbing starts tomorrow!

Great looking tank...Good job in building a super tall stand.

I have a tendency to comment as I go through the thread....at least you can see the beautiful progress you've made. The colors in your tank are very impressive Keep up the good work
